Batman Fan Film Discussion. Updated 3/24 W/ storyboard beginning

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

I'm really glad you're taking this seriously and planning a lot. Most of these posts/ideas fizzle out in a week but this one hasn't and thats great!

Hope to see some progress on this guys! Good luck.

Thanks, I understand there is a lot of talk about doing things, and I'm not saying that I can guarantee I'll get the funding (I'm not James Cameron :behave ), but I'm going to plan like I will, and if it doesn't come, then it only means it's time to wait, then restart the project in six months or so and do it again (I'm not going into how I'll be after the second time with no funding :wacko ).

Your concept mask for Scarecrow is scary as hell man. That's not even funny. I would poop my pants if that came to my front door!:lol

I take that as a very high compliment. Thank you :) If think you his costume design is scary, wait til you see him brought to life ;)

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

thats a lot of people, not counting anyone who is just in the BG. even IF you can find all those people for free, you still will at least have to feed them. labcoats and suits need to come from somewhere.

To address the cast problem I was thinking of solving most of the extras problems by using the same people (hopefully) throughout the whole season, using the good ole minion tricks to keep the audience from knowing it (like baclava's, masks, hoods, etc.), and even then we would need a lot, like 5-12 of them just for the main extras, let alone anyone else that would be appearing in the background.

As far as actors goes, Bane and Croc may be able to be one character, granted that bane's face won't be visible through the mask, but the two characters (Unless I can find a body builder who can do a good job acting :p ) may be too similar if played by the same actor, and it's a worry because Croc and Bane are two completely different characters.

Alright, on to the official (for the moment) character appearance list (don't shoot me if/when it changes :p ):

Episode 1: Blackest Night
Batman, Robin, Black Mask, Falcone, Commissioner Gordon, Harvey Dent, Barbara Gordon,
Extra roles: Falcone henchmen, Black Mask Henchmen, Selina Kyle (minor non-cat woman cameo)

Episode 2: The Laugh's on you!
Batman, Robin, The Joker, Commissioner Gordon,
Extra Roles: Middle Class Joker victims, Joker's goons, thugs

Episode 3: The Beast Within
Batman, Dick Grayson (injured), Alfred Pennyworth, Killer Croc
Extra Roles: Waylon's gang members

Episode 4: Disco in Wonderland
Batman, Mad Hatter, Tweedle Dee and Dum, Commissioner Gordon, Harvey Dent, Barbara Gordon
Extra Roles: Alice's of Wonderland, party goers,

Episode 5: Fear itself
Batman, Robin, Commissioner Gordon, Jonathan Crane (The Scarecrow),
Extra Roles: Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wayne (minor)

Episode 6: Two of a Kind
Batman, Robin, The Joker, Harlene Quintzel, Commissioner Gordon,
Extra Roles: Doctors, Police Officers, Joker's goons,

Episode 7:
Batman, Robin, Dr. Strange, Bane, Commissioner Gordon, Barbara Gordon, Alfred Pennyworth, Harvey Dent,
Extra Roles: Bane's Minions, Dinner Guests

Episode 8:
Batman, Nightwing, Bane, Commissioner Gordon, Barbara Gordon, Harvey Dent, Alfred Pennyworth
Extra Roles: Bane's Minions, Police Officers

So roughly that's about different roles + extras= 6-20 So indeed it's going to have a large cast.

Alright, that's how it stands for now, I'll be updating the site later as well. There may be changes in the future, and I'll update when/if that happens.

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

I like the double-R chest piece/harness clip. On some characters, like Batman, I don't want too much change, because the costume is so iconic, but with others, like this Robin (who is already getting close to making the leap, costume-wise, to Nightwing) I'm all for it.

You don't need to worry about batman being too drastically different, it will probably spot on with the Arkham Asylum Batman, with a fabric cowl with a hard plastic faceplate and ears.

To be honest I don't know if this will be the main Robin design or not, the idea that inspired this originally was a 'tactical' robin, or "Recon Robin", which he would be wearing in either of the Joker Episodes. The Same goes for Batman, he will have his mainstay look except for one or two episodes where he will have extra's, aka, his war suit.

And lastly I'm glad you noticed how Nightwing like Robin is, Nightwing's suit won't be much different than Robin's (Because seriously, Grayson doesn't have the same resources Bruce does, and won't be able to show up in a completely new suit).

If this concept does translate into the main Robin cotsume, there is definitely not going to have the back pack that is depicted.

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

More than one suit for these guys to meet different op requirements... Love that.

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

Nightwing actually has some some money, his parents left him a trust fund and Lucius Fox turned the money in a small fortune =P

It's actually pretty good that you've decided to take this seriously instead of just giving up a week later. I myself have had ideas for Batman series, but they've never come into fruition.

Just in case you need a Riddler to be cast, please message me - I had an idea in my head for some time about my version of Riddler, but it will never come to pass - I hope I can pass this on to you.

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

I really like the YJ version of Nightwing

Yeah, I never thought batman would wear only one suit, but would be more like iron man, a suit for just about every occasion.

Nightwing actually has some some money, his parents left him a trust fund and Lucius Fox turned the money in a small fortune =P

Well, that explains a lot... my bad :lol Don't know in the series if Fox will even be in it, or mentioned though, definitely needs more thought and planning on that end.

I've never really liked the Riddler, just because of trying to make him serious and yet an Enigma ;) But I'm all ears for listening to an idea. Who knows, if this thing goes well I might be able to put him in the second season ;)

To be honest, it's one of my favorite nightwing designs as well, but the arkham city the best in my opinion. Nightwing's design will probably be close to the pic you posted combined with the design for Robin with a little bit of Arkham City... yeah, we'll see how it looks :p

To re address JokerMan's statement, this won't be going away anytime soon, I may have spells for a few days at a time where I don't have any updates, but it's always going to be on my to do list of what I need to get done, even if it will take six months to get to the Promo (hopefully it won't be that long, but if it takes that long and works, then I won't complain).

Hope to have more updates on the story or more artwork soon.

The song "Never Too Late" is playing through my head atm... :p It isn't too late, nothing is set in stone, and probably won't be until the teaser/promo would be released, and in this business things can always come up.

First off, I'm not really doing a casting call, more like compiling a list of who I would contact first when I do doing a calling call, just so that's clear.

Also what skills/knowledge that you have that you think you could contribute to the project with (through a pm would be fine as well)? If you were wanting to help on set/location, things would be a bit complicated, but if you were looking to help, say with media (such as video editing, cgi, web design) then it won't matter if you are in New Jersey (I have nothing against New Jersey).

No news on any more of the concept art, I've got a few things that I need to take care of before I dedicate all of my free time to bringing this to full steam.

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

Well if you ever need someone to lend a voice I am always available. Or do a tv appearance type thing. Something were I don't have to be physically present. I will include a link to my voice impressions below

Heath Ledger Joker: Heath Ledger Joker Impressions - YouTube

Mark Hamill Joker: Mark Hamill Joker impression #3 - YouTube

And just some southern accents: Walking Dead Rick voice impression - YouTube

Okay, I hope these go as far as constructive criticism only, I don't mean these to sound belittling in any way shape or form, it's just my 2 cents

I left a comment on this one and your second Hammil voice. Ledger's joker was a bit, eccentric (even more than the others), personally a person would have to be in full costume with make up and all with no one knowing who you were to pull off his voice perfectly, but that's just his voice. I think that your voice is better suted for Hamil's Joker, your first impression video was spot on with Joker from Arkham Asylum, and as far as how long you draw out your words it aligns much better with Hamil's. Both aren't bad, just your Hamil's is better, and you don't look too much different than a young Mark either (young, as in we share the same birth year, ain't that crazy :lol )

As far as a needed voice actor, I'm not sure where I could use one, but I'll definitely let you know if/when I do. Also, nice batman art on your facebook page, quite impressive.

p.s. I just felt like using a bunch of smiley's in my post today :p

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

No real updates, but just wanted to let everyone know this has not been abandoned, I've been catching up with some projects I was behind with (like a batman 100 pepakura cowl that keeps kicking my *****, hopefully I'll get it done soon).

Whenever I get some more updates I'll get them to you, and don't forget to sign up on the site (it helps :) ) Beta Life Costuming - Where your Fantasy becomes Reality!

p.s. disregard the beta life costuming, it was a failed original costuming forum I tried, I just refurbished, still working out the kinks, if you want to help out with it, just register and pm me on there.

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

I suggest you catch up on some indie filmmaking tips on such channels as youtube.com/filmriot and youtube.com/indymogul. They will be quite eye opening for you. Costuming alone for a single episode of what you're imagining could costs thousands of dollars. A decent one-camera setup with lights, passable audio and editing needs will run you close to a thousand dollars minimum.

It's great to have ambition, but test your skills and know your limits before embarking on such an enormous project.

I would suggest creating a single sequence or scene before a series. Write a concise scene, no more than 3-5 minutes, that would include some of the elements you hope to bring to a series such as dramatic dialogue, action sequences, high quality costume, dark lighting (shooting at night is one of the hardest and hair-pulling experiences ever), etc. It could be something simple like Batman stopping a couple thugs, or catching up with the Joker. Most of your budget could go towards the look of Batman's costume. You will learn a lot from that experience. You'll learn your abilities, what you liked, what you should do different next time, and if you release it online, you will learn if people like your work. If they do, you can use that sequence/scene as a jumpstart to a series and even use it as an example when looking for funding on sites like kickstarter or indiegogo.

That's my two cents and recommendations as an indie filmmaker and someone who has 4 episodes written of a Spider-Man series I am planning. A series I will only attempt if the 2-3 minute "pilot" I've written is well received. I'm also keeping my series simple and doable. Fewer characters, especially hero/villain characters, more character development, believable but accessible locations, primarily daytime shooting (Batman is tough with all the night shooting), that sort of thing.

GOOD LUCK. It's really really really really hard, but if you want it, are passionate, talented, driven, and can drive others, you can do it.

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

Sound honest advice.

First, I'm trying to scrape up the money to make the first teaser/promo (whatever you want to call it).

I have plans for the batman suit, but that itself could cost nearly a thousand :( And believe me, I can guess how expensive things can get, it's why I haven't made a few films already.

What I'm considering to do is, create an animated storyboard for the trailer (like mentioned in the above posts) while I'm waiting to accumulate the funds and connections (I have a few, not much, but a few) to produce the live action trailer.

I will do my research (am doing my research) in everything from fabric display (for costumes) as well as angles for scenes and lighting. I just don't have a camera atm to test it :(

EDIT: well here is an update... sort of.

Re: Batman Live Action Fan Series. Any interest?

The end is not near for this project, just letting everyone know that... I've been going over possible designs for Killer Croc, and I'm begging to see the ups and downs of his character. I think instead of a whole mask (and bodysuit, like arkham asylum) I'm thinking more of a few latex attachments to the face and chest, with prosthetic teeth, and body paint (I'm thinking a grey instead of green, it's up for discussion).

Also I've kept writing the over views of the story, I'll be releasing the rough over views for discussion on the site, which will only be viewable by members. I haven't put them up yet, I'll let you know when ;)

Does anyone know how to get in contact with these people? or if they are members on here?

This would be the PERFECT Black Mask... well, mask. Your guys' thoughts? Also later today I will be posting (on the site) the rough story outline for the first episode, which I'll be up for discussion.
