Aliens M577APC Full size build discussion thread

Cool. My 1:18 build might provide some reference for the interior.

I've looked at your 1:18 model and it's given me a few ideas for my lifesize build project, right now I'm looking at the "monitors", (with the movie on "pause"), whether a simple back-lit plastic screen of their "readouts", or individual screens with "looped" footage of the characters from the Aliens movie. Those screens in the movie are obviously dated by today's standards, I'll figure it out when the time comes. My scrapbook right now is full of notes, drawings, plenty to keep me busy.

You probably saw the YouTube vid about Tony Chaney's APC (36"Long X 12"Width)?

Building a lifesize mock-up of the Aliens APC will take time and money, but since my version would be built out of mostly plywood, it'll be cheaper, but it's still just a "prop" and what to do after it's built, and where to put it, hence my childhood dream of a "Movie Museum" here in the UK.

I've looked into financing it, the whole "crowdfunding", investors, and all that, and then I thought to myself, "why not specialise in custom-made movie car replicas", start small and gradually build my way up in order to fund my other replica projects, especially a lifesize Aliens APC.

Today I've been on the Chefs Creations website, looking at the Colonial Marines uniforms and armour etc. My idea is to use it in a "fan-based" movie on YouTube, with a green screen behind the APC. I've added that to my scrapbook, my "wishlist" of projects, and we'll just see what happens in the near future. Remember, if you don't have a dream, how do you expect to have a dream come true?

Where abouts are you in the U.K.?

What I would like to do is actually create a lifesize diorama, yes it sounds "mad", but it's worth the challenge. I just Googled "Aliens Diorama" to see what inspiration I could find, I saw these images, and that's what I would like to do, combined, and yes, create it lifesize. It'll be a lot of hard work, time and money, but worth it when complete..."it's game time".

I've come up with another idea for the lifesize mock-up of the APC. I have a "fan-based" movie idea, it's called "Wing Cadets", and set here in the UK, it's a story about the RAF, set in the future.

Some scenes include "Combat Training", so I want the APC in the background, and if permission is granted, training with replica Pulse Rifles and Smartguns, so not the Colonial Marines obviously, but as a "homage" to the Aliens (1986) movie.

This allows "value for money" in building such a vehicle and finding uses for it, I want it in my museum, never give up on your dreams.

You can get driver boards for laptop screens on eBay for $25-ish. Cheap way to get multiple screens for the command area. 12vdc input, HDMI or component video. Bio-telemetry could be a fit-bit watch sending data via WiFi. High-rez headcams could be sent via EZwifibroadcast.

Look at my designs for the APC earlier in this thread...splits in half for trailer transport to a convention, driveable in a parade.

Well the original apc was made from a Hunslet ATT77 tractor tower which weighed a whopping 72 tons (due to lead/tungsten ballasts for towing aircraft) and they did extensive modifications to the interior and exterior

So my guess if you haven't gotten a donor vehicle yet id go with something more towards a standard truck thats a bit lengthy and can handle the modifications (not that cheap but a good body/mechanics shop can get it done easily) ive seen colinfurze mod the hell out of some old vehicles for other peices that are waaay out of my expertise so it is very possible

Id stick with either a 6 cylinder or a good unleaded engine that can drag some good weight (if its able to fit 12-16 people) then theres camera equipment and the turrets as well but thats more fo asthetics really as they were never used in the movie

I am watching with interest. The original vehicle used cannot fit the crew inside. I know you know that. I will love to see how you can locate the vehicle and mod it to work for a replica vehicle. It needs to be done, just for the visual.

Time to pay visit to medium/big airports in the U.K...to start;)
