A new Chewie in Germany

So, project 5 is finished and I can get on with my Wookiee feet.
pxl_20230331_091650614nc9h.jpg

And have you looked outside? On the thermometer? It will be nice again. And that means I can finally get on with my R2D2 again soon.
But, now it's the turn of the Wookiee feet first. I adjusted the EVA a bit so that it doesn't fall forward and shaped it with the hot air gun. Something rounder was appropriate.
Then I shaped the EVA sole a bit and sanded it down at the back so that it rolls off better. And finally glued to the shoe. According to the forum, the glue for painting should be very good for this. I'll know soon enough.
While this one is now drying, I wanted to take care of the second one, which reminded me that I had made one of the soles a little longer. Almost as a small shelf for the toes. And now guess if I found the part? Of course not. And why not? Because my little workshop is just ******* messy!!
Of course, that only occurred to me later, after I glued the sole. If the longer version turns out to be better, I have to loosen the glued one again. If I can find it at all.
On the subject of toes, I have finally decided on the switches. The photo shoot showed it too. Rigid toes would not have been good. Soft and compliant is just right.

I enter the workshop and see that 2 of the screw clamps have come loose. But, fortunately, the glue has already taken hold and everything is properly fixed.
I then set about assembling the toes. The belt was actually a good idea. At the back I fixed the loop with a screw and washer, at the front with a piece of perforated tape. So the toes have nowhere to go, but are still flexible and give way if necessary.

So I was able to finish the second shin. However, I had to cut it out again because this version was a bit shorter. But that went quite quickly, as did bending it into the right shape.
Again, I used screws to fix the EVA.
Then I glued the sole for the foot. Now it's time to wait again. And since I'm such a patient guy.

What makes me very happy is that I can be back in the workshop in a T-shirt. This also means that I will soon be able to continue with the R2 again.

Foot 2 was today. The soles now had 24 hours to connect properly, so I can now glue them to the foot.
This time I did it differently with the screw clamps and it seems to work.
Then I got my current Wookiee foot and adjusted the hair to the new one. There are really too many for this foot. So I'm considering doing the hair again for this version - I'm in the mood for it, hair everywhere again.
But I can't think of anything to fasten it quickly. I definitely need ideas.

So, the sole is glued. And I found the other (longer) sole too. Surprise. Whether I need them or not remains to be seen.
Now I was able to mount the toes on this foot as well. And now that it's my turn, I feel like they're too high. You should go further down, although a bit more distance when rolling off is certainly beneficial, but that strikes me as a bit extreme. So I'm going to lower it a bit - but how? I would have to cut away some of the toes so that they lay better underneath. I would say half of the first layer of soles seen from the ground. So almost 3cm air. But, that's a task for next week.

Meanwhile I thought again about the hair on my Version2. During the shoot I noticed that the hair had slipped down a bit. Of course you couldn't see it, but there was a danger that I would step on it with my other foot and then fall.
My first idea was to put some wire through the mesh and fix it with duct tape at the top. Then bend the top pieces and a longer piece of duct tape all the way around. This keeps it off the ground and I can remove it with relative ease if necessary.

Today I lowered the toes on one of the feet a bit. Looks a lot better and is comparable to my others. I can't take them any further down, otherwise the idea of better unrolling is gone.
Did I mention how glad I was to finally get the hair thing over with? Happy too soon. Mom made 2 more nets for my feet - which I now have to add hair to. Luckily not that many, because the pants already cover a lot.
Hair everywhere again...

Before I start knotting again, I quickly treat the second foot of my current version and fasten the hair. This time, however, not with wire but with yarn. For roasts, it's stable. And I like this version a lot more.
Then I had to take care of a small annoyance. My secondary weapon is broken. And that even before the first use. It's kind of annoying.
So I had to sand the broken off parts lightly and reconnect them with 2K epoxy glue.
Then a few passes of filler and sanding. I hope I hit the right note when painting again.

And now, first of all, tidy up and sort, or rather, sort out. Dude, what is accumulating and how can it explode like this???
It doesn't help anything, I have to make my little workshop look smart again first. Then it can go on.

But as long as I can't work, I use the time for something else. Hair. It doesn't help. Mom sewed 2 nets for me and attached them with Velcro. I now have to tie the Wookiee hair back on for the feet. The weekend was enough for one foot.

So the workshop is a little tidier (a little) and I can get on with it.
In the meantime I've finished the hair for the first foot and can attach it. After that I trimmed the hair and while I was at it, the hair on my V2 feet as well.
Now it looks like there might still be a few hairs left. I had taken a little less because otherwise I had exaggerated. Here I probably exaggerated the take away. Or it just seems that way to me.

However, it is only now that you can see what the toes look like. Now I have slight doubts, whether maybe too big. OK, the Wookie is a nice 2.30m tall. Therefore, big feet are not surprising. But, maybe the toes are sticking out a little too much now. I'll probably only be able to judge properly when I put my pants on with my feet.
The paint peeling off annoys me a bit, so I just stuck some duct tape over it. I should have done the same.

Made my second gun. Lightly sand with 3000 grade paper and apply another layer of varnish. Doesn't look bad.
Then combed the hair on the V3 feet again and looked at my stock of rubber soles. Something wrong with it.

I'm still waiting for my rubber soles for the Wookiee feet. So there wasn't much I could do other than add some more hair and continue knotting the 2nd hair piece for the second foot.

But I was able to examine my second weapon and it is ok again. So it's ready for action.

My rubber sole arrived today and I could finally continue. I'm still busy with the last hairs for the second foot, but that's actually already done.
Cut out the rubber sole and generously brushed it in with the Cosplayklaeber. Then press firmly together. I did that with both shoes and now I have to wait until tomorrow so that it hardens properly. And then the test can start.

Luckily I don't have any alcohol in my workshop. What happened: Today was the big day. The Wookiee Feet V3 are tested. I wanted to do everything without help - after all, I have to be able to do that in the future. Putting on the feet wasn't that easy. On a scale of 1-5 (1 easy, 5 very difficult) I would say it was a 3. The big belly wasn't really helpful either. The hardest part is tightening the buckles properly. I'm already dreading testing it with pants. All the hair :)
Anyway, that's when it started. A little scared, but after a few steps it went quite well. I still kind of walk like a fairly old Wookiee, but that might change with time and practice.
Datei von filehorst.de laden

Datei von filehorst.de laden

It still felt a bit odd (I'll get to that in a moment). I have a fairly stable footing in it and am not afraid of twisting my ankle. Even the slight incline went well, as did the descent. I was also able to master bumps well. From my point of view, the toes are fine. Seen from the camera, maybe a bit too long???
Now for the weird feeling. That was because I forgot the 2nd EVA plate on my left foot. DAMN !! Of course, it was missing a few mm and thus the strange, limping gait. So loosen the rubber sole and glued on the actually finished EVA. And since I don't know if the rubber sole will hold up again afterwards, I cut out a new one just to be on the safe side.
Someone once told me to slow down.
So now wait again and then do a new test. Maybe with the pants this time.

22-05-23

Today was a big day. Probably the final test of my Wookiee feet V3.
This time also with the pants, so I can see if the hair on the feet works and if it works with the shins.

I also wanted to do everything on my own, since I will probably be mainly alone in the future, unfortunately. It took me almost 14 minutes to put on the pants and then the shoes to being able to stand and walk. The fat belly is really very annoying. But, I was able to tie everything up relatively easily and putting my pants over it and shaking it a bit went quite well. Keeping your pants up while trying to tie everything up takes the most time and nerves. Sooo much hair.
A little annoying, because it makes the beautifully combed coat look less well combed after putting it on. But, that's probably part of it.

The following walking test was absolutely great. Safe footing, good walking, even rolling is possible, although I have to be careful not to overdo it. Otherwise, the medical splint will push me forward. Uphill is very easy, downhill I have to slow down and lean back more. But once you know that, it's not a problem. I'm not supposed to go jogging with it.

The toes: I think they look quite appropriate with all that hair and pants. Not too big anyway. I agree. It could still be a few more hairs here and there.
Pants and feet: The pants wonderfully cover a large part of the foot, and the rest is done by the attached hair on the feet. So I did that part well.
The Sole: I also tested some edges, rocks and turf. The sole adapts wonderfully, I don't slip and I can also walk quite well over uneven lawns. But some practice would still be good.
So I can start to finish the feet now. A little more color here and there, attaching and trimming the hair for the second foot.

I have now secured supports for the toes with angle brackets. The perforated tape went, but gave way too much. Then some more paint and actually that was it.
Wookiee feet version 3 is ready.
