Hi Gang,
Time for an early morning update!
Well... the laser cutter, despite the touch pad screen being shattered (and now being replaced), actually works! There are several functions within the LaserCad (not LaserCut) software that allow us to control the gantry (move the laser) back and forth, up, down, etc... So all was not completely lost! More on that in a sec!
I finished work on the vertical support beams - sanding and painting
Strike this task off the list
I then finished up the second of this greeblie - before weathering
After
I remounted the window. The blue tape you see will help me find a pattern I need to cut... more on that later
This is a critical step in helping me add the outer skin
On to the laser cutter... this is where I spent most of the weekend. Did it actually work?
YES!
For those of familiar with the Millennium Falcon will recognize this design!
I then laser cut finer detail / greeblies
Let's adhere all this MDF together!
While the adhesive dried I laser cut another small greeblie
Small small knobs
Small details
I then laser cut these odd shaped details
I had cut two different end caps. The first...
The second was more pointed. I liked this one best
Basic placement
So how does it all fit together on the foot well panel?
I like it!
Time to add some filler and primer!
So how does it all look with the primer and sanding almost behind us?
So what are these "counter sunk" holes for?
Just like the gunner station I'm going to add 4 panel lights to complete the basic look! EDIT: I just ordered 2 yellow and 2 red panel lights
What do you guys think?
I then spent a few minutes getting all these acrylic pieces adhered together
I'm not sure I'm going to add them because they are so fragile. I'll finish them up, paint them and see how everything looks
I love those panel lights! Another HUGE Thank You and recognition to fellow RPFer "RebelScum" for fabricating these amazing lights
I'm so glad the laser cutter is working again (fingers crossed)
