Sideshow 1:1 Han Carbonite replica

Bumping this as Captain Solo has become my new obsession. I have a spot that screams for it and a WAF that is trending positive.

Yeah, this is my holy grail. I'll probably cave and get the Sideshow version, or start making my own this next Spring as I'm sure it'll be the fraction of the cost of Sideshow's.

I'd be down for an IC version if the price dropped on them.

7k. Really??????

"This piece will be offered for a special introductory price of $6999.00"

Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Isn't there an old saying about separating a fool from his money.

Fools,....Your up.

It's a fair price for the collector market, and for what it is. You'll never see an RPFer spend that money if they can build it... how much do R2s go for? Life sized stuff is big money.... I just wish it was a little closer to how it looked in the film. I heard about an hour ago that the one in the pics has a panel that is definitely not an IC re-working, which is good. I'd like to see closer details on the hands....

I am a huge open market person, love Capitalism. Something is worth what someone will pay for it. No more or less. If someone wants to pay that, their choice.

But Geezzz It's not intricate like an Endoskeleton, a remote working R2, or full Boba Fett. It's a box. A really cool box, love the off the ground feature, but geez.

How about hire an RPF member to make a better one at half the cost and donate the rest to the Red Cross.

Well anyway, it's a lot of money.

I'm totally with you. $7k for a HIC is absolutely insane and it makes me wonder what Sideshow will charge for Vader and Fett if they have the balls to ask that much for what is, as you said, essentially a big box. I just can't imagine them selling very many of these at all, especially when the information is so readily available out there on how to make them at a much lower price.

Man, I was fully prepared for (and really hoping for) 3k or 4k, tops. I told my wife last night that I was planning to buy it and she already gave me the, "well as long as it's not thousands of dollars." I balked at that and admitted to her it would be over a thousand for sure. And, of course, she was very surprised and I could see the gears turning thinking of how my money could be better spent. She makes a lot more money than I do (and I make a good living!) and it's allowed us to do some house remodeling projects and take a couple of nice vacations that my money alone can't fully fund, so I understand her distain for my prop collecting.

Moral of the story: I can't in good conscience buy it for that price....dammit.

Yeah, I built mine for probably $3000 and it took forever. It was my first real build, but it was a PITA. Even if I didn't have one, I can't see paying $7000 for this.

Lifesize stuff is pricey. Just comes with the territory. I spent $5k on my mostly metal R2D2, but it's the one prop I'll never sell.

The Vader and Fett really have my interest. If they're offered at that same price point I'll have to get at least one. :) ….But which one?

At 7k, I would have to hit the lottery first. Looks nice though, but I always thought the carbonite was closer in color to the box frame? Very few fan builds have a black box with grey//silver carbonite. Once zenix offers his greeblies, I should be closer to finishing my own....

Don't get too excited about it Jason. As I pointed out before, they've used a front panel casting that has clearly been put together by using a panel casting that had been cut into sections for ease of shipping. This makes me think they actually used one of the offerings from here? The distinctive shapes in the area surrounding Han's body have clearly been rubbed down too much where the sections were joined together. Annoyingly, the one which suffers worst loss of detail is the part which is most noticeable - namely, the upper section which has the head and shoulders on it. I'll re-post my comparison pic to show it later.

Just looking at the specs…this thing weighs 300 lbs…?!

My homemade HIC has gotta be close to 200 and the thing is massive and almost impossible to move around….300 lbs? wow :confused

Here's the photo that clearly shows where the Sideshow piece has got missing detail compared to the original because they've used a front panel that has been pieced together from separate sections and the join has been rubbed down which has removed detail. (Click on the photo to see it at larger size).

The hair in the Original vs. Sideshow is way wrong as well.

Maybe it's better that it is $7,000. I would have been very tempted for $3-4K, but $7K is just over the top. Time to start plans to build my own.

I'm guessing the assembly that holds it ran up the price. You have to make sure it's structural sound so they don't get sued.
