Let's see your Vader Reveal set

Well, for one thing Andrew Ainsworth did NOT make these molds...
:)
These molds were made by Tim Ketzer several years ago for his personal helmet and then sold to me for a tidy sum.
I have long since given up any hope of recovering my losses on this project but this is my way of trying to
A. get the bad taste out of mouth by making lemonade
B. get other folks started on this project
C. Hopefully get a new pull from the molds for my trouble
I have a full set of metal parts by Vader Doctor that I cant wait to put to use :)

Onigiri what's the backstory on these moulds for those of us not familiar ?
Shocking story what this dude did to you before hope everything pans out this time round.

AA didn't make them ? !!! :lol

Thanks for the info so did Tim build this around an existing helmet then ?

dunno but if you look at the rotj reveal there seems to be some scribe lines on teh crown that show light under teh cahrcoal.
Personally I like teh idea of black,

Hi Onigiri

The Reveal's top crown is a separate Plastruct elipse so what you're seeing through the scratched paint in the circular lines is that plastic part, or maybe grey primer paint. The long horizontal crack in the paint just under the edge of the crown shows the join where the Plastruct part and the presumably bondo/putty that blended it with the fibreglass mask meet.

Jeremy

Thanks
Do we know teh precise diameter of that plastruct elipse?

Yep, I believe it's 6 inches diameter. I haven't got my Reveal stuff to hand at the moment though. I bought a plastruct elipse this size a while ago but it looked to me like the curve at the bottom had too big a radius, the original's seems to have a tighter curve. Perhaps Plastruct have changed the part's profile over the years? or the ROTJ art department modifyed one, I don't know.

Jeremy

Edit - Best of luck by the way Onigiri!

In case there's anyone still interested in this info, I've heard back from Paul Davison at Electron Tubes. The dynodes are still available but they're now $30.00 each FOB Sweetwater, TX as he put it. Paul's e-mail addy is paulatelectrontubesdotcom.

If that's a bit steep to absorb and some of you might prefer the ebay route, then this is the tube to look for:

Sorry for the flash, but the relevant numbers are:

Type: 9956A
Serial: 12141

How many of those tubes would one have to purchase to get the right number of parts?

Threads come up in the junkyard fairly often by those looking to sell their extras or whatever and ebay has listings pretty regularly as well...

I know this might sound dumb but where do you start at getting a good ESB Vader Helmet? My cousins very interested

I know a guy who might do this on commission. I'll ask him. This would be for the 3fiberglass pieces only(face, chin, dome). He'll tint the fiberglass black too if he can work it out. :) If onigiri is willing to lend the moulds for this project in return for a casting, he might do it since he doesn't have to create moulds. It might keep the price down as well. I'll get back to you on this.

Dave

Dumb question here, but what size should the holes for the dynodes be?
and are they square or rectangular?

I'm guesstimating one inch square but would like to know an accurate size before I start making any cuts.

My contact is booked up. So I guess it's back to the drawing board. He said if we don't find anyone by February, to ask him again.

Dave :)

Taking my digital calipers to a real dynode I get 1.06 inches square.
