The Definitive Peter Quill/Star-Lord Costume Thread

The color is just slightly different. Very similar red though.

I went with a small on the fjacket, which was a little odd because I normally wear a medium. It was snug, and slightly short. For this one I went with a medium and it fits better. For reference in 5'10" 185, with a 42" chest

Oh hey did you try to contact the seller at all? eBay says they don't take questions, so I am unsure about sending them a custom sizing order. My question above about the size has sort of been answered in this quoted post, but I can't decide. I'm short and stocky and trying to find an off-the-rack fit is ridiculous for me (my wolverine jacket was made to 18.5" shoulders, 44" chest, 24.5" sleeves, and I've lost a little weight - 2" on chest and waist; may need to have it taken in).

Edit: went ahead and ordered Custom Size, then sent measurements to the seller via Contact Seller. Fingers crossed!

A little more progress . . .

Hey guys!

this thread is fantastic, thank you to all who have contributed your experience.

I am working on my star lord helmet and I am trying to figure out the lenses and LED lighting. I am wondering if anyone who has had success in completing the eyes such that they glow bright red (but still get visibility through them while wearing helmet) would mind sharing their wisdom :)

thanks!

I had just about finished my star lord build, but now ive been looking through all the new posts and a few new pictures have appeared.so now ive got to go back and change a few things but i guess that's the fun of it all ;)

heres my star lord helmet, i was going for a really battle worn paint job but i had ran out of time and was rushed for the con. now that its over im going to redo the paint job and clean it up a bit.

I still think that out of all the trenchcoat made so far the one from...famusmoviejackets is the cleanest and most accurate?...just my opinion....Ill be purchasing one in the next week...will post pics when received....

Well the famousmoviejackets pictures are literally the exact same trench coat as cosplaysky, but considering the fact that I've only seen two versions of it that you can just buy at the moment it probably is the best one available right now.

That's great - got a build thread? I bought a kids' Iron man mask like so many others to start the build, but I'm having a hard time trying to figure out the scale and such.

The helmet is going to be one of the last pieces I make so I might wind up not cosplaying with it. I figure I can get away with not having a helmet if I have the other essentials. The ear piece I think maybe using some sculpy would work, or maybe foam and worbla. I haven't decided whether I want it to light up or not. Then use spirit gum to attach it behind my ear. There are some other posts on here that show some nice clear shots of the piece for reference.

Hm, that worries me a bit. As I'm 5'5" with about a 40" chest, I was recommended the medium, so that's what I got. You said it's rather long, and I sure don't want it to be too long on my frame. How long is the medium, from collar to bottom hem? And how long are the sleeves?

Thanks,
Aeric

Sorry to also add to your worries but I'm 5'7'', 170 lbs, and a 41'' chest. I also got my jacket from fjackets (kinda now wishing I waited a bit longer to find out about that ebay one, may have dealt out the extra cash since it's much more screen accurate). Anyway, I was recommended the small size. I was very thorough and after measuring my chest, arms, waist, and shoulders and still coming out to small as my recommendation, I went with that. I got it last week and it fits very well. Not too long, not too short, not too snug, not too roomie. The only area that wasn't great was the sleeve length was a bit too long but I think I'll just get that tailored. The Fjacket crew was very helpful in guaranteeing me a good recommendation and luckily sent me a e-mail to have me do a 24 hour confirm/change before the shipment was processed (which I initially did a XL because I messed up my initial measurements and all my other clothes are always XL so it just seemed right to pick that, also made me feel perplexed being recommended a small in the end). I suggest, since you are close to my measurements and 3'' shorter than me to consider sending them a message to put a hold on shipping your jacket and give them the same measurement info as was asked of me (if you already bought it and still are in that 24 confirmation time period). If not, it shouldn't be too bad. They are pretty fast getting to the designated shipping address (it was like a week or even less for me in VA) so you can check it out, see if you like it anyway, or decide to ship it back for a different size (or save up more money for the ebay one).

DarthDave,

Thanks for the info, though I think you may be under the impression that I got the fjackets one. I was all set to order the small fjacket, but then the ebay one popped up and I ended up buying that one. I'm just worried that I may have been recommended the wrong size, but we'll see when it gets here.

Regards,
Aeric

Oh awesome. I was under the impression you did get the fjackets one but now knowing you got that sweet ebay one that has popped up on here, I think you're better off. I was checking out that one today and their size chart seems to be a size up from fjackets chart so I'll bet a medium will do you just fine.

Vadersville - That paint job looks great! I'm currently working on the same thing with the nerf guns. Gonna be spraying on a layer of chrome in the morning. Keep up the good work. And as far as the pullbacks not having the same elasticity.. Did you reconnect the spring mechanism to the pullbacks? I made that mistake when I was taking it apart to see how it was built. Forgot to reconnect those springs and the pullbacks didn't work very well. You might check that. As long as you didn't cake on too much paint, they should work fine. Just a thought..

Thanks! think you're right about the springs on the pullbacks. Completely forgot about those. Not sure why or if that would affect the firing of the outer two barrels though. I actually fixed the sliding problem by just taking the bottom piece off and giving it a slight sanding on the inside. Boom! Quickdraw action is back! Now I just have to paint the second one!

Dave,

I hope so. You saying that its a size up from fjackets gives me hope that I picked the right size. I'll definitely update everyone once I receive it!
