Transformers: Age of Extinction

And I thought reducing the Transformers to side characters was bad. Now they've outright reduced Optimus Prime as a plot device.

It looks like they're just using him in a similar way to Bumblebee in the first movie, to introduce the human characters, and give them relevance to the Transformers. Once he is restored, I'm sure he'll still be pivotal to the story.

Yeah I did a double take when I saw Gen1 Optimus there in the beginning. It made me get goosebumps! As I watched it in my aging 36 year old body I thought for a moment I was 6 years old again ogling at what looked to be the real deal Optimus Prime I always hoped would be on screen. I'm sure it's merely a nod though and won't last long in the film. Something to please the fans temporarily before we see those moving lips again, haha!

After this trailer I'm back on board wanting to see it.

Did anyone else find it funny when Wahlberg said you don't mess with people from Texas but he said it in his Boston accent.

Yeah from that trailer it looks like Prime's G1 form doesn't last long, he's back to his normal look in that Grimlock fight, which is a shame as it would have been a good setup for a reboot. Yep just saw on the wiki for the film he turns into another semi style later in the film. I think they were trying to win over g1 fans. Oddly enough Galvatron in this movie sounds alot like G1 Motormaster from the stunticons.
I can't wait to see if they butchered Unicron. But i'm going to end up watching it at some point just to see Dinobots and g1 prime. I'm actually amazed the dinobots even look like dinosaurs as bad as the designs for the robots are. let's hope they get some g1 actors other than Peter Cullen for the voices.

On another note they're using the last game in the Fall of Cybertron series to tie the games with the movies which seems kind of forced to me.

Looks like the last movie: "Autobots, go home!! You're nothing but trouble." 1 hour later "OH CRAP!!! HELP!!! WE NEED THE AUTOBOTS!!!" Am I missing something?

These movies are tired. I'm ready for something new... how about a GoBots movie. Or muh muh muh M.A.S.K. Voltron?

Or a Transformer movie not by Bay that's a total reboot and inspired by the new G1 comics or the original cartoon. The g1 comic has been revived by a company in at least 2 different timelines both inspired by the Marvel original.

OK Detroit'ers, I know you can tell me what this is (seen at 1:22 in the trailer).

How about a GI Joe transformers crossover movie?

Oh, how foolish of me. I forgot that there's one other character who also gets billed over the Transformers.

America!

You know i wouldn't mind that newer look he gets after the G1 job (though i would like to know how he ended up in that form randomly) if it wasn't those damned flames. I love they put our flag all over the movie yet half of it was filmed in China and it'll be released there before here. That's like George Romero trying to pass off Canada as the Pittsburgh area in his movies these days.

My guess?

Optimus (and possibly the other Autobots) take on different forms in order to hide, with Optimus taking on the G1 form. However, he still gets discovered and gets the crap shot out of him, putting him into the Cybertronian equivalent of a coma, and when he wakes up to Kick Decepticon Tuchus in the Name of Justice, he has to take on a new form.

In a real-world sense, Michael Bay-Splosions is probably pandering to all the purists who complained that Optimus was not a flat-nosed semi.

Still don't like the flames, though.

Wasn't Optimus missing an arm at the end of DotM? Less mass so he reformatted into the cab-over design. Where he gets the mass back for that larger Peterbuilt model beats me.

I was waiting for someone to pull out the flag argument. I've never known a country to be offended by their own national flag.

I'm not offended by this. I just think it's incredibly goofy and forceful with a tiny shade of irony. Now I'm not ashamed to be an American and I love living here, but what's the point of it here? This trailer really shows how the film goes out of it's way to showcase the flag in every way it can. As far as the story is concerned, America is just a setting where this family comes from. You don't need bang the audience over the head that this is an American family by carefully framing the American flag and it's patterns in everything. Are you trying to tell a story, or are you just indulging yourself in how awesome you think your country is? I mean, American flag patterned welding helmet?

Nitpicking? I guess. When Spiderman did the American flag schtick, it was more acceptable back then because the film was released shortly after 9/11 happened. But after that, especially with Spider Man 3, it really wore out it's welcome. I found it's forceful presence annoying back than, and I still find it annoying now. I'm proud to be an American, but I'm not going to shove that fact in your face or tell you how awesome we are.
