SyFy's Heroes of Cosplay

So I think this is the first episode I've watched since the premier. I don't know how much is scripted or staged or not but my god, I would lose my **** at these people. That Victoria chick is almost useless and has to rely on her bf for her costumes, Yaya says her costume is falling apart when ONE thing falls off and that monika kid is a stuck up bitch with a holier than thou complex.

Don't know if it's already been mentioned but did anyone notice the guy with the RPF shirt on tonight?

All night I felt like Holly reminded me of someone.
It finally hit me.

Evil Dead's Lou Taylor Pucci
Not saying she looks like a dude. I think she's cute.
But I've met Lou and she could be his sister, or cousin, or something.

I think she's cute.

You know what, I think she's cute too. I didn't really think anything about her one way or the other, but the more I saw her and learned about her the cuter I think she is. By contrast I had seen pics of Monika in costumes before and I remember thinking she was cute, but the more of her I see (street clothes, out of costume) and the more I see her attitude (edited or not) the less attractive I think she is. Attractive to someone, not my type.

I still really like Becky and I felt really bad for her. I think her costumes are fantastic. I felt bad for Victoria but finishing up last minute makes it difficult to trouble-shoot your costume and make sure it's 100%. Yaya was, as usual, the center of her own universe.

All I can say to everyone smack talking those folks on the show... Guess who is getting paid by SyFy to do their hobby full time? They are!

What are we doing? Working Full time AND doing our hobby.

Annoying or not "good" or whatever your gripe may be... they've "made it" so to speak. Even Jesse "I wanna do this for a living" Steam Trooper Mustache guy.

Whilst I see your point to a degree. The internet gives people chance to moan about what they wish. Movies.... reality shows and the like. And they (me included) will continue to do so.

Also... I wouldnt say this show means they have 'made it'. its hardly guaranteeing their lifes career. Opposed to just giving them extra exposure. And a nice side earner for a season. The fact that im not as talented doesnt take away my right to an opinion of a human being. Dont get me wrong. So are you. But whining about whining seems counter productive.

Good luck to them all. Reality shows are mainly fake and over dramatised to make tv anyway. Been noted that some of these costumes have been created before the show and just remade.

Yaya seems to hold herself up high. However not a complete b***h like some people i know. And her costumes do have a quality look. Definitley has the sex appeal..... the missus asked me why anyone would dress like that. Thats what you get with a partner who was never into gaming after spyro....

lol if that show does anything, its to slim their chances of doing it professional. lots of people see the show, and even tho it might all be scripted, people will hold those guys to it. they see steam trooper guy doesnt put out the best work. they see people being bitchy, not keeping deadlines etc.

i dont think people really want that in what they pay for.

i still think its 100 % staged. yaya doesnt do her own costumes, at least not anymore, and i doubt she ever did. you saw in the first episode that everything they showed was her boyfriend making stuff.
i would take jessica nigri over yaya any day. she might show cleavage, but at least shes not that stuck up and admits that she does it for fame, and at least she does do her costumes herself. i think shed be much more fun to hang out with than yaya. the only one who does this for the right reasons, is chloe dyxtra, she does it for fun.
she refused to be on the show, and they still pulled her in last episode, bashing her for no reason.

everyone who cosplays to gets famous should just quit, if you dont do it for the fun, whats the point?

i have no real gripes with the cosplayers, but i would sue syfy for negative portrayal, cause the way they show people is like they are complete and utter trash.

Oh hey yeah! Jessie (Steamtrooper guy) was completely absent from last nights episode wasn't he? (Save for a name shot in the credits) There is no part of this show where people get voted off, so he must be working on something big for an upcoming episode, yes?

Man can they make Monica look any worse!

Victoria looked like a complete incompetent last night.

Heroes of cosplay indeed! :lol

All the fabricated drama is a snooze. This show would be 100x better if it just showed the contests and all the costumes. I go to cons solely to shoot pix of cosplayers, and I'm already bored out of my mind with this show.

I realized I am thousands of times more pleasant towards the show in the episodes that lack Jesse.

So many people coming down on Monika for what she said last night. If they only knew the kind of person Becky Young was during her time at 1UP and with Tommy Tallarico and how she gained her notoriety back then.

I don't watch the show, and have only become familiar with the names of these people by virtue of this thread, but why is it that Yaya is more looked up to in some sense, but Jessica Nigri is derided? From the pictures I saw, both seem to be plenty happy to show off their cleavage. Or is the issue that the cleavage is "part" of the "real" costume for one, whereas the other one is "enhanced" for cleavage display? I dunno. That just seems kinda...arbitrary. I mean, whether you're picking a costume that naturally incorporates boobs or designing your costume to focus attention thereon....it's all still about showin' off the girls, no? I mean, sure, workmanship and the like, but let's be honest: it's about showin' off the girls either way, or you'd cover them up.

I guess this just seems a bit "Star Bellied Sneeches" to me that one would be fine, but the other would be frowned upon. If someone's got it and wants to flaunt it, whatever. What's it to me?

To be clear, I'm not suggesting that you personally were saying that, just that it's something I've seen discussed elsewhere as I started looking into it. I mean, come on, really? THIS is how we're gonna rank-order cosplayers, both of whom are dressing sexy? Are we also going to make judgments based on whether someone's chest is real or surgically enhanced? I just think it's kind of absurd. It's one thing if you want to criticize someone for choosing a "sexy" costume over a costume that is far less sexy but maybe more intense in terms of the work required. I get that, if you prioritize work/workmanship over sex appeal. But otherwise, it all just seems like playing to sex appeal to me. Either because you chose a "naturally" sexy costume, or because you "made" the costume sexy.

I think what people are getting at is that Yaya thinks her craftsmanship is more important than showing off her body (which she does in all her costumes, so she's a hypocrite in my eyes), whereas Jessica prioritizes her body over her craftsmanship.

Yaya's argument is that if you show off your body all the time, that's all you will be known for, which I agree with. The moment you decide to not show off your body, you'll be yesterday's news. But if you are known for doing high quality costumes, and you feel like doing a sexy one every now and then, it will just add to your fan base.

The fact that Yaya is saying it is hilarious because I have yet to see a photo of her without her boobs hanging out. But at least she's trying to warn Monika about it. Unfortunately Monika has no sex appeal to show off whatsoever and the Jessica girl isn't much better (to me at least). They both seem like those girls we all had in high school who NEEDED attention and would do anything to get it, regardless of how trashy they looked/acted.

Bringing up a story is pointless unless you tell the story.

Okay, so they have their own show. So does Honey Boo Boo, but that doesn't make them winners, now does it? Train wrecks make for great TV, I think that's been proven time and and time again. The cat thing makes me wonder now if they're focusing this show onto bad ideas and showing what not to do? Seriously, if these people know what they're doing, that cat thing seems even more an insane choice in this case...
They really should rename this show, "Losers of Cosplay" because they simply don't win anything. I find myself watching to see who will beat them at the contest this week...

Amen there!

Huh. I mean, ok, I guess, like you, I don't really see a ton of difference. Granted, I'm not examining the stitching or the sequins or whatever on the outfits, so I can't tell from online pics which is the better costume, but it strikes me that both are coming at it from the perspective of sex appeal. Which, hey, is fine. You wanna rock teh sexay look, go for it. But to say "I'm better because MY costume has MORE effort" when both have effort involved...yeah, that just strikes me as a load of crap.

It's one thing if you're showing up to Halloween in your "Sexy Noun" costume that's clearly storebought and has no personal connection to you. I don't have a problem with that, per se, but it doesn't impress me. On the other hand, if you put effort in and still look sexy, I respect it. The posturing and rank-ordering is the part that strikes me as silly. But hey, whatever. I'm just eating my popcorn, watching the crowd watch the show. :)

Bringing up a story is pointless unless you tell the story.

I heard she turned him into a newt. But he got better.

Bringing up a story is pointless unless you tell the story.

Becky Young during the heyday of 1UP.com garnered a lot of attention by posing with various gaming devices and trying to call herself a gamer. When called out on it, she was defensive and argumentative. She used that attention to get a job at 1UP as a community rep when they still had offices in San Francisco. And she still knew next to nothing about video games or related media. She then parlayed that job into a PR position with Tommy Tallarico. Tallarico is a video game composer and best known for his VGL concert series. He's also a cousin of Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. Let's just put it this way, she wasn't nicknamed the "Tommyknocker" without reason.

I haven't heard anything about her since then. That was probably about 8 or so years ago. So imagine my surprise when I saw her face on the promos for this show. And judging from what I've seen on the show, she's still attention starved and gets emotional when called out on her deficiencies to which she can't admit to having.
