American Sniper (Post-release)

Re: American Sniper

You guys know Jessie Ventura sued Chris Kyle's wife and won? This guy needs to be run out of town. What a travesty just because Jessie got his feathers ruffled. He is a sicko.

The book is awesome and the film looks great too.

Re: American Sniper

I am no fan of Ventura, I believe he has been deceptive about his service and is a crazy 911 truther. With that being said it is his right to attempt to clear his name and apparently the court agreed that he was wronged. Now, taking money from Kyle's family is a low class move and to me shows it was probably all about money and not really about clearing his name...
I am really looking forward to the movie and although I feel Cooper lacks the physical stature and mannerisms of Kyle, I'm sure he and Eastwood will make a fine movie.

Re: American Sniper

I think Jessie is a loser and Kyle is a hero.

I guess I can expect a lawsuit.

Apparently Kyle punched Jessie at some SEAL event after Jessie made the comment that SEALS “deserved to lose some” for their actions in the war. Jessie took 1.8 million away from Kyle's family after his death. I wish one of those UFO's he speaks of would zap that turd to space.

Re: American Sniper

I just saw a pre-release screening of the film last week and Bradley Cooper's performance is remarkable. It really deserves the Oscar nomination. His portrayal is excellent.
The film isn't just about the combat, but also how it affects the participants and their families.

It made me want to know more about the real man.

Is this another one like Lone Survivor? While I thought that one was a decent movie, it's not anything I would ever want to watch twice. Too intense and depressing.

It's a much different story. Intense and depressing... I'm sure. Kyle was a Navy Seal and credited with the most confirmed sniper kills. Did 4 tours in Iraq. He was up for reenlistment but chose his family instead. He started a company, and a charity to help vets, and wrote a book on his experience/life. He was murdered in 2013 by a POS he was trying to help.

The book really shows the human behind the legend. For instance he chose to go to Iraq over his family a few times and even attmitted that he didn't really feel a connection with his first born for awhile. If anyone hasn't read the book, I highly recommend it. I read it in a day.

Just got back from seeing this movie and it is just as emotionally draining if not moreso than Lone Survivor was. This movie doesn't quite have the same direct storyline type narrative to it, but it is absolutely unflinching. I really love movies like this because it creates a sense of pride and patriotism (something I personally feel is sorely lacking in many) as well as a non-apologetic view of who we are and what we do. It isn't melee-mouthed about what evil looks like and why we feel a need to combat it. It also shows the price we pay for those things, a price that is very very high at times, but then, that is what personal sacrifice is about. Watching this movie reminds me of JFK's "ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." Some men heed that call and answer it with their time, with their bodies, with their relationships and sometimes with their lives. If not for those sacrifices, we wouldn't be here today, living this lifestyle in relative peace and safety. I am sure their was some Hollywoodization of the story, and I am sure Kyle was whitewashed a bit, but no matter what, this is a great story and a great movie.

His Widow said she didn't see Bradley Cooper on the screen, she saw her husband. You can't get a better endorsement than that.

It got a limited release (in selected US cities) on Dec 25, which allows it to be qualified as a 2014 release. The nationwide and international release will be next month on Jan 16.

Just finished the book... VERY VERY different than the movie. As I mentioned in my previous post, the movie lacks a concise storyline and now I know why. The book has no "story" at all. It is simply an autobiography that tells of Chris Kyle's life. The movie takes a LOT of liberties in trying to piece an actual story together from many separate experiences that Kyle talks about in his book. So... if you are looking for historical accuracy... the movie simply isn't going to provide it in any way shape or form. If you are looking for an overall FEEL of Chris Kyle time in the SEALS, the movie delivers in a big way and really does represent him just as he does in the book.

Some people may see the outlook he has on life, service and patriotism as simplistic and naive, but I'll tell you, I weep for the lack of people like him left in our country.

Saw this last night. I enjoyed it, but it is my least favorite Eastwood directed film. Very by the numbers. I prefered Lone Survivor.
