November 24th, 2013 at 10:15 pm -

Historical & Hollywood entertainment memorabilia auction house, Profiles in History, is holding a series of auctions starting the week of Wednesday, December 18th. I was in California this weekend and was fortunate to get an advance view of the items being offered at the auction. I shot video presentations and took photographs of a select group of the items. Profiles CEO, Joe Maddalena also did a few video presentations of some of the items as well.

I received the ok to mention some of the items being auctioned before the releasse of the auction catalog, so enjoy this quick advance. Full video and photographic information will be published later the week of November 25th, when I arrive back in New York.

The full Profiles auction schedual is as follows:

Wednesday, December 18th: Rock & Roll Auction 59

Thursday, December 19th: The Property of a Distinguished American Private Collector Part III

Friday, December 20th: Animation Auction 60

Saturday, December 21st: Hollywood Auction 62

Of note in Hollywood Auction 62, is an unprecedented collection of costumes direct from Western Costume Company. Profiles was chosen by Western to auction many never before available costumes from their “Star Collection“. A few highlights include: a set or fourteen costumes from “The Sound of Music“, items from ”Gone With the Wind“, ”How to Marry a Millionaire“, “Patton“, “Charge of the Light Brigade“, and much more.

Additional auction highlights include:

An original insert poster from the 1927 US release of Fritz Langs’ “Metropolis”

A group of items from the famous TLC Chinese Theatre, including original theater seats and more

Items from “Gone with the Wind”

Bert Lahr’s Cowardy Lion “Witch Remover” prop

A selection of costumes from the original Star Trek including, William Shatner’s Kirk space suit from “The Tholian Web” episode.

Kate Winslet’s “Rose De Witt Bukater” engagement ring from “Titanic”

“Frodo Baggins” aluminum stunt “Sting” sword from “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy

The original Batmobile process car from “Batman Returns”

The close to 800 lot auction consists of original props, costumes, artwork, and ephemera from many classic and current Hollywood films.

*More photos and video presentations coming Thanksgiving week.

Re: PROFILES IN HISTORY Sale

I'm interested to see what Rose's engagement ring will sell for. That same exact ring was sold on eBay a few months ago for $1000 if I remember correctly as I almost bought it...

Why is the phone from Legally Blonde starting at 2 grand? I feel like it was only used once, maybe twice? It's not even that rememberable compared to her other fuzzy stuff.

That said, I have less than a month to get enough money to buy the Declaration of Independence from National Treasure. If worse comes to worse, I'll have to steal it :D

Sorry, pretty new to Props and such auctions. Is it sufficient to register to the auction site and put my max bids there like on ebay or do I need to be there for any live auction stuff?

Re: PROFILES IN HISTORY Sale

Do you have the url for that ebay sale? I couldn't find it.

I no longer have the link and it won't show up on eBay anymore. It sold this summer around June or July I believe. I almost purchased it but was talked out of it it and bought some Small Soldier stuff for my collection instead. It was being sold by the owner of a popular Titanic exhibit in Florida, he had been selling his Titanic collection for months when he sold this. James Cameron had personally given him the ring after meeting and he kept the ring on display in the museum for years. I don't remember if the seller claimed he met Cameron at a charity event or while Cameron was in the middle of editing Titanic. But he did supply photos of him and Cameron together in the listing as proof. I am fairly certain the listing had ended with 2 bids by one person for a price of $999. If it sells at Profiles for the starting bid of $30k the cosigner got a great deal

Small Soldiers is always a good choice.

Also I think it found a new home: Rose's Screen Worn Diamond Engagement Ring original movie prop from Titanic (1997) . It's stated from being from the Exhibit you talked about.

You know, if it weren't so freak'n expensive, that Batman process car would make an awesome driving simulator cockpit for Grand Turismo!!! LOL!!!

About that, did anyone notice the differences between the in-car tv monitor and the comparison screen cap?

Someone needs to do some quality control of the reference images posted up on these lots. The Screen Used Batman Returns costume has a reference shot from the first Batman film...

Problems with "Lot 349: Kevin Sorbo "Captain Hunt" hero prop blaster from Andromeda."

Hunt didn't use a blaster. He used a High Guard Force Lance. The pictures they show aren't even Sorbo holding the blaster. If I remember right it's Michael Shanks, who would be the cause of Lexa Doig missing parts of the fourth season.

Can anyone comment on the Blade Runner blaster? I didn't think Deckard used a blaster like this despite the "impeccable provenance" that Profiles claims. It looks like a blaster from one of the background characters.

I could've swore Deckard's gun had a brown grip on it, but maybe they didn't care about it since this is a stunt gun and was going to be used for night scenes. I thought there was a short shot of his gun either careening across the ground when Leon knocks it out of his hand or laying on the ground as Rachael picks it up, but I just went back and looked at my copy of the movie and if there was one originally, it's gone in the Final Cut version.

So, I guess all I can really say is- I don't know.

Please vote for this as the least helpful post of the month. Thank you for your support. :thumbsup

OK that is WRONG, the stunt Blaster Ford carried had amber grips,

Both in the scene where Leon swats it out of his hand (Wake up, time to die) and when Batty punches though the wall and takes it from him, if you freeze frame that seen you can clearly see the seam on top of the rubber stunt prop and the amber grips, in fact you can see that one grip is broken near the mounting screw.

Yeah be very careful with this company. I won something expensive in the last Hollywood auction and it was not as described and they basically told me to **** off. call them when in doubt and really do your homework....I'm not the only one that has had issues with them.

I thought these guys were top notch among the auction houses. Now seeing all you guys all out stuff makes me think of them as preimerprops now. Keep up great work.
