The RPF has enjoyed a long relationship with the Propstore of London and now they have become our first forum sponsor!

If you are a long time collector of original prop and costume memorabilia, it is unlikely that you don't already know who the Prop Store is, but for those who are new to this area of the hobby, here is a bit of information and history:

Prop Store is the world’s leading vendor of original movie props and costumes. But they aren’t just a storefront for movie memorabilia, they’re collectors and historians, too.

In 1998, Prop Store founder Stephen Lane’s love for movies led him to begin hunting for the same props and costumes that were used to create his favorite films. In his quest, he found that he could not only provide collectors with access to their most coveted pieces, but also establish archival standards for this new, pop-culture hybrid of fine art and memorabilia collecting—prop art.

Stephen has spent the last twelve years assembling his dream team of like-minded movie fanatics. During that time, Prop Store has been much like a band of movie archaeologists—scouring the world for treasure troves of important film artifacts wherever they may be hidden. And, much like their archaeological counterparts, Prop Store’s central focus is on properly researching, preserving and archiving the physical remnants of film history.

Although acquisition will always be the core service that Prop Store offers, their unique expertise and keen desire to preserve Hollywood history has helped them develop a suite of additional services for their clients.

Appraisal and authentication is perhaps the most significant element in collecting original movie props and costumes. Prop Store not only employs their own, in-house expertise, but they also rely on an extensive network of trusted industry professionals to provide first-hand information about the props and costumes they acquire.

Prop Store also believes in an “archival standard” for the prop and costume displays that they commission for clients as well as for their own collections. To this end, Prop Store partners with experts in the display industry to produce museum-quality acrylic display cases, laser-cut mats, and custom-built mannequins that not only preserve costume pieces but also bring them uniquely to life.

It is inevitable that some of the props and costumes that come into Prop Store’s collections will have fallen victim to time and the elements. Although strict originality is always preferred, in some of the more extreme cases, a restoration is necessary to preserve the piece from a total loss. Prop Store provides an array of restoration services for props, costumes, and models and partners with the finest artists in the industry. In many cases, Prop Store has been able to commission the original visual effects artists to perform the restoration work, thus providing an even better standard of originality.

Today, the prop hobby and Prop Store are thriving. With over fifteen employees between our offices in London and Los Angeles and over 15,000 combined square feet of archived props and costumes, we’ve become the busiest and most trusted authority in the hobby. In fact, Prop Store places a lifetime guarantee of authenticity on every piece that passes from its archives into the hands of collectors.

Thinking of starting your own collection? Give Prop Store a call or e-mail and they will arrange a tour through one of their incredible galleries so that you can see the limitless possibilities that await. The reality of owning an authentic prop or costume from your favorite movie could truly be just a call or click away.
