High Quality Water Transfer sheets....suggestions?

Wanted to get some opinions- I need to secure laser-printer clear water transfer sheets to produce some decals for a helmet project. The concern is that I am seeing a lot of potential options, but just not quite sure who to go with. The decals would be substantially large, compared to say use for models, and would be in lieu of an actual helmet paint job.

I was hoping anyone with more experience might know the best quality to go with or recommend?

I cant remember the brand, but the ones that I was able to purchase from Office Depot a few years back worked quite nicely. It depends a lot on the quality of printer you are running them through.

Might try something like a vehicle wrap. Digital print to an adhesive vinyl substrate that can be heated and stuck to most surfaces. Look for a local company and have them give you a price and some reference pics.

I ordered a lot from here in the past and had great success with the waterslide decals. Only issue is that printing them at home, you do not get white ink, so if you buy transparent sheets, you need a white object to place them on. You can buy the opaque paper, but then even when you trim it, you still have white borders unless you can trim directly to the edge of your artwork.

For people that made "home made" decals an old Alps printer was great because it could print in white.

Sadly, that printer has not been around for awhile so everyone else is stuck with a white paint layer and then a color transfer.

Yeah not having a printer with white ink is so limiting when it comes to waterslides.

the size of your decal is going to be the "big" deal. if you do 1 super huge decal it wont "wrap" around your curved helmet surface without wrinkling. if you can break it up to smaller pieces then you might have a chance of home printing and applying. good luck!! ;)

what helmet are you making? painting techniques would likely get better results

I have a thread in the premium members section. It's sort of a secret project

I've just learned of "film free" transfer paper. I think that's what. Want to go with...

just seen it, yes that's a tricky paint job! waterslide decals wont go on curves nicely though so you might have some trouble with the dome. You might be better off getting the design cut out of vinyl, then you can heat it to fit the curves nicely, will be a lot easier to work with than waterslide paper.

I am looking for good options myself. Looks like you need to apply some glue with that one. That could be problematic with paint I would have below the decal. Are there other transfer sheets that are self adherent at least until one can cover all with a varnish layer?
