Progress with question: Luke (Force Awakens)

Unapologetic newbie here. My wife helped me sew this FA Luke Skywalker costume (which is still a work in progress) and I cobbled together an EVA belt and robot hand, but there’s one thing that I struggle with (besides the robot hand), and that’s the leg wraps. I don’t have full calve boots and these leg wraps just don’t seem to want to stay — even with safety pins.

Anyone have a few tips for this type of costume element?

I would suggest making them longer because even if you don't wind them up all the way, with more layers they will stay in place better. Also you would likely want to use cotton canvas or coarser fabric vs a synthetic fabric which has more of a tendency to be slippery. You want to wind them super super tight as well so that they stay in place. They will loosen a bit to be more comfortable as you walk around with them on, but making them almost uncomfortably tight at first will guarantee that they won't slip off.

I have costumed as Luke from ANH for years and these techniques have always worked for my puttees.
