Modeling and making mold of prop quantum defender

Hey guys I'm trying to find ways to make a prop replica of the quantum defender and for one I want to make the hole thing itself by hand and then make a mold and cast out of resin, but the problem here is I'm not sure what I can make it out of as the first part to make a mold out of if anyone has any ideas or anything like that would be greatly appreciated.
