Hi y'all
I've started work on a stunt lightsaber from A New Hope.
As far as we can tell, it's a tube, cut to look like a graflex and decorated.
Over the years it's been a rotating electronic prop and a static allen screw lightsaber with Aluminum stock for a core. It's been bare, then had a black painted tip for Vader's fight with Ob1...then stripped again and eventually had Gaffer's tape applied to the graflex clamp and the emitter.
Posting some pictures in what I believe to be chronological order - credit where credit's due if they're yours!
- Scott Juarez
- Post ANH promo shoot
- ESB Behind the Scenes
- Ditto
- Recent Archives shot with taped emitter, Allen screws, missing grips & glue residue and an extra bladed insert in the foreground with matching countersunk holes
The tube may be something stronger like Stainless Steel but with my tools and ability I can really only confidently work with aluminum - until I can get someone to make me one haha
So here's where I'm starting. This was a grey aluminum tube with printed codes on the side like you'd get from any metal shop. I used a jigsaw, dremel and hand files to shape it to a graflex shape - taken like Indiana Jones with graphite, paper and @redbutton 's ANH graflex. Later, I found out the real shape is more like a 45º angle thats been sculpted at the top, but I like mine more!
I used 250 grit sandpaper and then a much higher grit to polish this thing up - easily scratched tho
Trying to figure out how to attach the knobs/buttons correctly..any help or opinions are greatly appreciated
Edit: I've oriented my clamp to match the post ANH promo shoot, best I can gather!
