Deathdealer

For a long time now I've loved Frank Frazetta's work and especially the character Death Dealer. As I learn more about the vision Frank had for that character I have rolled out newer more detailed versions of the costume. I started with a heavy metal mashup with a WOW flair and then progressed to a more minimalist classic version which requires a model with a physique to get the effect. Now I'm trying to recreate the look portrayed in the painting Frank did of DD on horseback. The question that is often asked is what did the Death Dealer Face plate really look like? The art does not answer this question. It's no secret that part of the allure of Death Dealer is the mystery as to his exact features. The art always carefully shrouded his faceplate in shadow and intrigue! Thanks to Sara Frazetta and David Spurlock I learned that Frank did eventually answer this mystery! When the DD became such a big hit that a sculptor named Randy Bowen decided to render Death Dealer into a 3d statuette for the first time, the question was answered by the master himself. Frank drew the features of the famous horned helmet and gave it to Bowen. Presumably Bowen's work is the definitive final vision of the Death Dealer helm. Armed with this new info I have attempted to recreate the helm with an all EVA foam build. My good friend Steven K Smith of SKS Props is also building his insanely beautiful resin cast version too. I'm proud to say that I was able to share the info I learned with Steven to help solve the mystery of how that face should look. He has wanted to craft Death Dealer for a long time as he is a huge Frazetta fan. Anyway here is my meager efforts to render the vision that Frank Frazetta and Randy Bowen collaborated on.
Note: I have not yet added the glowing red eyes but I will post that soon.
