Your Favorite "Re-Purpose" of something for your Cosplay

That time you found or took something . . . and made it something else for your cosplay. Today I took a 50 cent Bolivia Glasses case from Goodwill, sewed some straps, and added it to my Deadpool/Mario belt.

What's your favorite Re-Purpose? I know some of you have done some wacky changes to stuff.

My favorite repurpose had to have been using an athletic cup for a last minute Bane mask, so many jokes.

I've always had a lot of good luck finding stuff at goodwill/ebay/etc. Mostly stuff for friends and shoes. Most recently I picked up a leather jacket on ebay for cheaper than I could have bought the leather myself and after some surgery turned it into my Donna Noble (Doctor Who) jacket:

Wow, kelldar, that is amazing leather work. Now I'm gonna have to take a closer look at the clothing next time I hit up Goodwill.

99 Cent Travel Q-Tip case/pack from Target, and 99 Cent M&M Candy tubes for Comic Book Utility belts:

Thought I'd throw in this pic of the retooled belt for this year:

Used a Orange Juice container for the body of my Evil Dead Chainsaw hand

(also the "fan" on the side was made of the package that hold the wire for a weed trimmer and an instant coffee container lid. this chainsaw was 90% re-purposed items)

I used clear drinking straws stuck in floral foam and then drizzled many layers of hot glue to make my ice crown for my White B!*%h costume. And I used dollar store bunny puppets and pillow covers for the cloak. The bunny paws attached to the neck line of my dress and the bunnies near the bottom I left the bottom end open so they could be used as pockets.

Fangs - That is awesome, I love these kinds of things. It makes me look at things in a totally different light. I caught myself starring at the orange juice containers today while grocery shopping after Seancoleman's post.

OK, Here's a couple more things for this years Dragon Con:

My "I can't do casting yet" MarioPool belt buckle. It's a hard plastic screw on cap sanded and smoothed, painted and a Deadpool Wheel cover Vinyl center . . .

I'm going with it.

Re: Your Favorite "Re-Purpose" of something for your Cosplay

I regularly made costumes from vididly coloured wool blankets for my SCA garb. I made a light blue, a white and a screaming teal and orange dress each from one blanket. I develoved a very period accurate pattern (found out after that yep, tailors did in deed use nearly the exact shapes) which made use of nearly every scrap of fabric with very little waste.

Most useful? A set of oversized buttons I used along with casting resin in paint mixer trays to make the knee decoration for my Shae Vizla costume and my Regina Necklace. Piccies of Regina are sadly in personal facebook folders. Sigh. Actually triangle shaped keyring links and picture hooks are what I used for the side fastening on Shae :) That was a bit of interesting shopping :)

I also used to be able to buy small brass filigree findings very easily, so would layer and cut them and wire them up with jewelery findings to make authentic looking pins for my Spanish gown. And the girdle and necklace set for my Cologne gown is made from multiple bracelets linked together to mimic the look in portraits 9which are a mix of wire work and ring work I think originally).
