Yesterday....I moulded a real ST helmet from ROTJ

Hey Guys

This is big for me.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to mould a Stormtrooper lid from ROTJ. It is owned by a close friend of mine from Toronto who is currently visiting me (we visited him in June of last year).

He has allowed me to make a 2 part silicone mould of the helmet on the understanding that it will be a completely 'non invasive' process.

The helmet apparently has good provenance but is not in the best of shape at all. Yellowed, some cracks, lenseless and without ears (only glue remains).

But I LOVE IT..

I may mod this (apply ears, fill cracks, clean up etc.) to make a really nice ROTJ for myself. This will sit on top of my stunning Troopermaster armour)

Can't say much more at this stage. Pics to follow soon (if he is OK with that).

Thanks for looking.

Steve ;)

Very cool. Always great to hear about original Stormtrooper helmets' being moulded :)

And the ROTJ helmet is a great piece, whether it's a background helmet or not :D

Keep us updated please.

Cheers,
John

Thanks for the input guys.

I'm still nagging him to let me do something with the mould as opposed to just letting it sit there and keep for myself.

So it may find it's way in to being a nice available ROTJ replica at some stage.

It would be a once piece thing though and made of resin.

Will keep you posted.

Steve :)

That's great to hear. Congrats on a very nice opportunity.

Makes me wish I knew the fellow myself, being in my neck of the woods. I'd never really expected that screen-used pieces were making the migration to Canada. I am eagerly awaiting pics. Still, I can see why one wouldn't advertise it too loudly. ;)

I hope you get the chance to use your mold (at least for your own bucket). It would be a shame to go through the exercise of casting and not get the final step in for such a fun piece. Best of luck, Steve. :thumbsup

sounds like a dream project....i would love to see pics

oh, and put me down for one when you do a run... :p

Hi Guys

Thought I'd update you on this one. Been working 2 jobs at the moment. Plus building a pulse rifle, plus sculpting a 300 lid. So it's all going on.

Here are a few shots of the modified helmet to date.

More shots to follow as I progress.

Thanks, Steve

Cool,

Can you share photographs of the original you molded?

I'd like to add them to my reference libr...

thanks

:)

Hi

Thanks for the input guys :thumbsup

With regard to the original. I have plenty of shots, but the chap who owns it (who resides in Toronto) didn't particularly want me zipping photos of his collection around - that was part of the deal.

Now my first pull and mods to that pull, he isn't that bothered about. I think he was just happy I didn't destroy his lid in the process.

It took me ages to get him to allow me to mould it - and I don't want to sour the agreement. I know he is aware of this boards existence.

Thanks again!

More shots to follow as and when

I know what it's like having to tread carefully when you're trying to do something like this - well done for achieving that, the work's looking great!

Can't wait to see any more that you're able to show :smile

Very cool Steve

I bet you were nervous moulding the helmet, they are very very delicate when in pieces!

Obviously pics would be great but I can understand if your friend wants to keep things private.

Any more info would be great.
