So.
I'm a newbie here, and I'm a huge fan of all the geekiness going around. I'm considering Disney Imagineering as a career path (either in the propping or production design departments), and I thought, "What better way to start than by taking things out of the Disney movies and bringing them into the real world?"
I thought about this for a while. I knew I wanted to start with something easy.
Then my sister got me hooked on ABC's Once Upon a Time. I loved how the old props that you know and love are given a darker element. Then I saw the episode with Yen Sid's hat from Fantasia. It was right behind Regina.
Now, I could just mosey on over to Disney World and buy one, but they have mouse ears on them. Not good for a display.
And here's where you say "Cut the ears off, then."
And I reply with "I don't like the material. It doesn't feel or look like something a guy as powerful as Yen Sid would wear on his head."
I would like for the hat to look like a mix between the one in OUAT and The Sorcerer's Apprentice. I also like the design featured in Kingdom Hearts and Epic Mickey. Basically, I want something that looks like a real artifact, but has a touch of cartoon to it.
I've never made a hat before, and I want to get this perfect. I'm thinking that foam would be the way to give it its basic shape.
If anyone has any design ideas, please share!!!!!
I've attached pictures of the hat as it appears in Once Upon a Time, The Sorcerer's Apprentice, and Epic Mickey respectively.
