Firstshowing.net popped up Kevin Tacharoen's pitch reel for The Hunger Games.
I enjoyed the final movie but it did feel somewhat like the sterilized feel of a Harry Potter movies or at least a imitative feel of that franchise. This reel has a much more grittier feel to it and I have to say, after seeing it wished the studios had leaned more towards this cinematic feel.
Definitely worth the time to watch:

Your thoughts?

I just find it hard to get into the feel of something in which I'm recognizing clips from other films left and right. I guess it's just too distracting for me.

I definitely agree with your "sterilized" viewpoint though. There was a moment during one of the training sessions where I found myself thinking "wow, this might actually amount to something cool"...and then...meh.

I got half way through the first book and it was kinda gritty for a book aimed at teens, then again it's hard not to be gritty when you're in an Olympics that kills folks lol.

True, but with the market they were targeting they had to make it that way. A lot of pre-teens huge on this franchise.

As for the pitch reel, I liked it but it really lost me at two points:

1. When I saw Twilight.

2. The end credits. Such a prominent tune from Gladiator and the character clips they used were kind of all over the place.

That said, I love pitch reels. Done a few myself and you have absolutely no limitations, let your imagination run wild. :)
