Working with latex

Hello all,

New to the forums and pred builds, I have started to acquire items for my build but have never worked with latex at all. Can someone that has worked with prepping and painting latex give me some pointers? It would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Dan

If you google it or search this forum you'll find tutorials, I think there is some on youtube. But basically you prime it with Prosaide (a kind of medical adhesive) Then you shoot ink through an airbrush. Most use FW inks, but any acrylic ink I use liquitex. Then you seal it with a flexible clear sealer.

Thank you. What clear flexible sealer do you recommend? I heard you can mix acrylic paint with liquid latex for a base coat. Is this correct?

Yes this is correct. But I would paint it on with a brush, don't try and airbrush it on. Liquitex clear sealer is the one to use, make sure its a flexi one because they do rigid ones too.

Dont mis-understand me here. I said paint on latex base coat. Don't attempt to paint on gloss sealer after you done detailed airbrush work, you will take it straight off! You should airbrush sealer, you could thin it slightley but it should be airbrushed on.

Really? Man i tried airbrushing it on but it was way too thick and i was scared to reduce or thin it out with anything.

I used Createx airbrush paint to paint my suit and had tried an inconspicuous spot to clear before attempting the whole thing and i ddnt see any problems with it rubbing off but Deffinely wasnt able to spray it on...

By The Way/ this was my first attempt to ever paint latex or build a suit ever.

Just wanted to make sure since I've not had a chance to work with latex. I'll be painting a friend's alien costume for him.

I think some people do one or two layers with thinned out sealer and then brush it on neat for the remaing coat. I certainly won't be painting straight on to the paint job.

This is liquitex brushed straight on paint, no problemo
