Wooden katana sucker punch babydoll

Hi,

I'm new here

I'd really like to make a replica of the katana babydoll uses in sucker punch, but i don't know how to start with it.
I know some stuff can be done with wood or mdf, but no idea how :/
Can anyone help me with this/give me some pointers?

Adam Savage from Tested / Mythbusters posted "a one day built" tutorial of an Hellboy sword he created recently.
Allthough it is different sword-type it should give you the basic instructions on "how to".....
