Wolverine Claw Replicas! Snikt!

How's it going? Well this is my first post on here and my first costume replica so be gentle.

I decided to create my own Wolverine claws because I really wanted to go as Wolverine for a Wizard World Con and while shopping around felt the others that I saw were either over priced, looked too long, or actually turned out to be store bought sets that were modified and then resold.

Since this is my first set there is a lot of trial and error going on during this process, but I am already learning ways to mass produce these at a great quality!

I cut the claw shapes out of foam, and then used Smooth-On Silicone Mold Making Rubber OOMOO 30 for the mold. I have since then cast the first set using Smooth-On Smooth-Cast 300 Liquid Plastic Compound. Because I am a rookie and made a rookie mistake I had to do a lot of sanding to make them smooth, so far that is working out well. Updates of the process will be coming as I get them done!

Well here's the update!

Both sets are completed! I created molds for the palm pieces using the same process as the claws, sanded and shaped them so they would be concealed while holding them and feel comfortable in the palms. I then used hangar wire to shape the way the claws would form around my hands, specifically while wearing my gloves. Then the painting began..

Painting the claws was nothing special. Spray paint, primer, etc etc. I did choose to do the handles blue so they hid inside the gloves, and I can do them any color to conceal them even more. I also used the left over rubber and plastic to create a belt buckle.

I will take orders on the claws if people are interested. Wouldn't mind making them and honing my skills a bit. The claws I will make all the way, but if I do the belt buckles I will make them as a raw cast so people can paint them in the colors of whichever uniform they desire.
