Wizard of Oz?

nicely done. :) did you glue or sew all those sequins?

Thanks!! :0)
The sequins are all measured strip by strip, cut, and glued with a clear glue. Someday I will learn how to sew, so I can make a fully authentic pair lol. But I do kinda like having the glued strips instead of sewing them, because in the long run the shoes will last a lot longer. :)

i made a pair of slippers for my mom a whle back on mothers day
i sewed on the sequins

there in her office ill see if i can get them for some pictures

RubySlippers, d3po2u,

thanks for the pics and info. I've been wanting to do this to a pair of docs and wondered which method would be best. I thought it might be way too difficult to get a needle through the leather, but was also afraid glue would look messy. Looks like both methods work well. :)

nice replicas! what is the best pair of shoes to use to make your own? ive been wanting to make a pair for a looooong time!

Nice shoes! I cheaped out when I made a pair for my wife. Just spray glued on some red psuedo-sequined fabric (that stretchy fabric with metallic thread woven in and circular Mylar dots on it). Worked great for Halloween but not real quality costume caliber.

Here's my Scarecrow from that same Halloween. Everything I sewed myself except for the white cotton gloves (which I was too drunk to realize I never covered up the logo on!) and my boots. The face was a fabric hood that I made with a latex edge around the face hole that I then applied more latex to to cover the seam transition from hood to face. Fun costume to party in!:

You dont need to push the needle through the leather of the shoe. Lay a piece of burgundy or same colored fabric on the shoes and make a template. Then sew the sequins individually onto the fabric and glue the fabric to the shoe. thats how the originals were done, and it makes for a cleaner look.

I've posted previously on the Wicked Witch of the West costume I made. I made the hat based on the dimensions of an actual hat and I also made the broom.

We like to do theme costume for Halloween each year as a family. This year was Wizard of Oz. Not exactly screen accurate but I think they represented the theme great. We were a big hit at the party we went to.

VERY NICE. What's your Tin Man armor made of?

It was basically made of poster board, some of those brass brads used to put report together, some hot glue and sliver paint. I based it on pics from the movie and built each piece to fit me. I used the brads to make the joints movable. I have a few WIP pics I can post if you're interested.

Definitely would like to see your in progress pics! :)

Thanks for the tips on how the original shoes were done. How were the bows added? I'm watching the movie now and want a pair for myself. I'll have to start looking for shoes that are a close match. What make/style did you guys use?
