Ok, so I recieved my Rocky I bust from Howard and couldn't resist painting him right up. It's an unbelievable likeness and lends itself to being painted very well. The hair was a challenge, particularly to make it look real, but I am ok with how it came out. I know its not perfect, but I hope I did it justice. (Excuse the pics my computer is on the fritz).

I still have to swap out his robe which is very innaccurate. I did order a much more accurate one on ebay (type red Rocky robe) but I noticed the feedback for the last few months for that seller is attrocious. (One I never recieved it after another. DOH). So I may have to file a claim. Anyone have any sources for an accurate robe?

Finally, I also would like to swap out his gloves (which are the Diamond Select "Go the Distance Gloves" with real Casanovas.

Here he is!

The Rocky Howard S bust has a phenomenal likeness.
This is the first time that I have seen anyone do a full lifesize display with this bust.

I would tone down the redness on the cheeks & then do a light purple/blue wash in some of the swollen areas to give it a bruised look.

On closer inspection, you are prob right M.

I wanted to paint Rocky to match the famous moment right when the cut man cuts Rocky's eye.

I used a paused Bluray for reference. On my TV, his wounds were bright red at that moment and bleeding, and get darker as the fight proceeds. It could have been a color settings thing :lol because I see pics where the wounds look more rust colored and dark. DOH.

Just a headsup, I just won a paypal dispute against the seller of the Red robe being sold on eBay out of Singapore I believe. It never arrived and the seller never communicated with me. I am still looking for a more accurate robe and would love to read more comments.

I messaged that seller in concern of your situation cause I was looking into getting one.I asked the seller why people havent been receiving there robes and he replied back saying

The problem is the US has a new rule that only allows us to send parcels of less than 1 pound. So if you choose a smaller size robe we can ship, if it's larger we can't. This is why we haven't been able to ship for some customers.

Yes, I saw a similar message he sent to paypal after ignoring a few of my messages to him before I escalated the claim. So its now impossible to mail something over one pound? What a terrible rule! :rolleyes

If the seller still wants to sell these, he should make this new rule clear in his listing or take it down. Or offer, I don't know, DIFFERENT shipping options?!

I appreciate the info though Pitbull. The sad thing was I made it clear to Paypal that I was more than willing to wait if the seller communicated with me as I wanted the robe. He didn't until too late and I simply got a refund.

Maybe I can/will try again if he even wants to deal with me. I would change my tune if I actually got the robe.

Did you decide what you are going to do?

Thanks so much PHA.

I have since done a little bit of updating. I ended up adding a wig since most of his hair was covered by the hood. Now there is real hair hanging in front of his forehead which I think looks much more real.

I also added an mp3 player and speaker system attached to his body that cycles through a few of the more famous Rocky quotes (There are about 20 like "Yoou gotta' be a morrron. A morron to wanna' fight" and "I just fought the best fighta' my life. I just did that, yaknow?" and of course "I can't see outa' my eye, you gotta' cut me Mick...cut me."

The Rocky robes look awesome in the seller's pics but after reading his feedback I would be very nervous to make a purchase.

Since January no one seemed to ever get their robes from this seller.

To not even dignify buyers with a reply on the status of their shipment is very unprofessional & shady.:thumbsdown

I really wouldn't TGG.

If he couldn't ship (yawn, yeah, right, whatever), then he should have refunded you the money immediately. There is no excuse for not communicating and having the client having to open a dispute.

Fool me once, shame on me ...

Once bitten .....

etc etc

Thanks BP,

I use oil model paints on my busts. For skin I use desert tan flat, some white, and whatever creamy pink color I can find (all flat) and I apply each color by blotting it on to blend them with various thicknesses of brushes while the paint is wet. (Start with desert tan, blot some white, maybe a tad of red, etc until I get the bust to match my own arm color the best I can.

Then, while the paint is STILL wet, I then blot a grey or dark blue around the eyes and blend it completely, then same for the beard. If it gets too blue, I add some tan.
