Hello All,

After browsing around on the forums for awhile, and seeing everyone's masterpieces, I decided to attempt to make a Mark 7 costume for Halloween. I wanted to start by shouting out all the greats who have painstakingly done most of the hard work for me as well as most of the Iron Man builds you see these days. Remember, SOMEONE went through the process of getting the 3D models, then unfolding them...let alone modifying them for foam builds. So to Darkside501st, Stealth, Syrus54, Zabana, Robo3687, Sharkman, and the DOZENS of others I forgot, THANK YOU for your hard work!! I also want to thank IMIM2 for his 'Tips From a Newbie to Newbies' thread. A GOLD MINE of information, tips, and shortcuts for any IM build. :D

Now, down to business...here's a quick timeline of the work I've been doing for the past couple of weeks, just to catch up....

September 2, 2014:

Went to Harbor Freight here in MD to pick up a few of the supplies to get started. The foam rolls happened to be on sale for $7.99, and the heat gun for $9.99, so I shopped there on the right weekend. The box cutters were $1.49 at Wal-Mart, and I ran across the push lights (for the repulsors/arc reactor) at Dollar Tree, so I grabbed three of those, just to start....

With everyone speaking of how bad their first attempts were when they began with the helmet, I decided to go the easier route and start with the shoulders. I used Darkside501st's V1 foam files (they were already scaled for someone that is 5'6" and lucky for me, that's just my height :D). I printed on regular paper instead of cardstock, began tracing the shapes out onto cardboard using a permanent marker, and cut them out using the box cutter, then repeated the process for the foam.

I cut them out, then glued the pieces together. I wasn't 100% satisfied with the work, but I figured it was a decent start for my first time. The shoulder just came out..blocky.
