who won the lightsaber fired by R2-D2 for $15000US

Elstree Props were featured on a BBC TV program about eBay a little while ago.

I believe they were the source of the multiple Judge Dredd Affidavit props - which may or may not add to their repuatation.

They certainly seem to deal in legitimate items. Their website is currently down, but I believe they were not updating it anyway as most of their business was coming via their shop and eBay.

I'm surprised this went for so much. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but the final price was shocking.

Im not. Figure it was used by TWO principal actors....Luke and R2.

It was a major scene in Jedi, with all the principal rebels taking place....and it spelled the end of Jaba.

I was suprised it didnt go for more really.

I don't think Luke ever touched it.

The auction says it's not the one he caught.

Although, if it's original, it's a pretty rare item.

Oh to have the moola like that to plunk down on a piece of plastic....

I didn't...I was watching it though, pretty exciting.
I loved the pics from the auction.

LOL, My son doesn't believe it's really "The" one that R2 shoots out...
he was comparing the top edge of the emitter and the dark spots don't line up to his satisfaction...

I believe it is though, I see where the dents and breaks are...

Well I was there the day they shot the footage on R2 shooting the lightsaber. I even have Super 8 footage of it happening. And they fired at least four different sabers. I only have one take. They didn't run down and collect them after each take, they had several they could fire. This could be one.

I've handled one of the R2 domes that seller sold a while back and I was convinced it was genuine.

But how a guy in England got his hands on a saber that was used in the desert in California, kind of a mystery.

;)
Hey thats a great story, thanks for sharing that.

Maybe that was the one left behind (in England) :( aww poor thing...

So where in the desert can I go dig one of these up??? ;)

Did anyone save pictures of this? If so, please share. I'm intrigued.

Hey 3 CELL PO ! I don't know if this is the correct auction or not, maybe Banquo Fett remembers, but the 2006 auction may have been the same lightsaber as one of these 2013 auctions listed at Original Prop Blog...

http://www.originalprop.com/blog/20...iger-collection-connections-surfaces-on-ebay/

http://www.originalprop.com/blog/category/market-watch/elstree-props/return-of-the-jedi-lightsaber/

If this is the correct lightsaber from the 2006 auction for the original link...

https://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=283206&page=2&p=4342332&viewfull=1#post4342332

...then it is clearly not the lightsaber in the sail barge close-up shots of R2-D2 as there are no grooves in the windvane neck on the Elstree Auction Lightsaber. And there were Hale's Grenade grooves in the lightsaber coming up out of R2-D2....

Now, when comparing the lightsaber from Wired Magazine...

https://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=274185&p=4203527&viewfull=1#post4203527

...to the one coming up out of R2-D2 on the sail barge, you have a much closer, way more likely match!

If anyone remembers the original link to be the Elstree Auction R2-D2 Launched Lightsaber without the control box, I have pictures of that lightsaber saved from various sites via Google and can post them up here, otherwise, I'll refrain from doing so to prevent any further confusion in this poor ole thread. ;)
