Where to Get a Decent Dreadlock Wig?

As the title implies, I'm looking for a decent dreadlock wig in either dark brown or black for a "close enough for me" Captain Teague costume I'm putting together for Halloween. I've tried Evilbay and Google searches, but what I've come up with so far is either a) cheap costume wigs that look like cheap costume wigs, b) dreadlock wigs that are actually braided rather than dreadlocked, and c) listings with photos that are so small that I can't determine the quality/realism of the wigs. I'm not looking for (nor can I afford) a human hair wig, but I'd like something that looks more realistic than the typical "Halloween shop/costume store" wigs; surely there must be something in-between.

Since so many RPF members have put together their own Jack Sparrow costumes, I'm hoping someone can recommend a source that they've had a positive experience with. Fortunately for me, the Teague wig seems pretty straightforward (i.e., no braids or deerbone sail needles).

Also, I live in southern California (15 miles east of Los Angeles), so if anyone knows of any retail stores in the area that deal in dreadlock wigs, I'm definitely interested in taking a drive and shopping in-person.

Since Teague has mainly brown hair it would not be all that difficult to make your own wig mate! You can start out with a dark brown #2 wig made of Kanekalon hair. FleaBay will have them listed from as low as $25.00 to $45.00. Measure your noggin with a wig cap on first to get approximate size. Most of these wigs are made for women so you want to get the correct size.

Next get off black, dark brown, and light brown Kanekalon hair JUMBO from Sallys here in LA. They run about $4.99 each and yield anywhere from 3-5 fat dreads and 5-7 skinnier dreads.

But seriously Jackie, thanks for the suggestion and the tutorial videos; I'll keep them in mind as a "last resort". I'd prefer something ready-made because I have a back condition which prevents me from standing for long periods of time, so it would literally take weeks for me to make my own dreads using your method.

I must say, I really like the results you achieved. Your wig looks very natural and (as far as I can tell) accurate. One question--once the dreads are completed, how do you attach them to the wig?

I can honestly tell you I spent most of my days backcombing the dreads infront of the tube! Watching TV and backcombing. When it came time to steaming I also sat down to complete the job! I also suffer from lower back pains so no excuses pop!!!!lolI only stood for filming purposes.

I use regular thread sewn into the dread and take a couple of loops into the mesh part of the wig. Looks natural. Some people have used hot glue guns but I find that the glue can be pokie if it gets all over the place and it is difficult to remove if you don't like the placement of the dread.
