Where the hell is the Museum Replicas Thor hammer???

I just realized that I didn't get one of the bottom of the hammer (I've already boxed it back up to return), but yeah...the previous comment about it looking like a High School Art class project is comparable.

I think they went a bit overboard on the oil. there was just a thin coat on the blades i got and inside the bag. Sounds like they dropped the ball on this thing, if all are this bad they're going to have a ton of returns.

If that oil is supposed to be there (I've never seen it before), then that's obviously not something to complain about. The handle makes me mad though. I guess I'll give Sideshow a shout on Mon to see what can be done about it.

That handle is horrible. I wonder if this is an isolated defect or are most like this? Makes me want to cancel, but I've already committed with my deposit to Sideshow. Oh well, I can always send it back if it's bad too.

That oil is probably cosmoline. As others have noted, it is a protectant for the metal. That said, the handle is atrocious.

That handle does not even look close to what they had advertised. I was thinking about this awhile back, but glad I never ordered in the end.

Sideshow is usually super good for handling stuff like this (They replaced the busted head on my DX Hot Toys 89' Batman fig no sweat almost three months after I bought it), so I'm not worried about their response. I'm just rattled that Museum Replicas would see this as an item that is worth $400. It sucks, because I was really looking forward to it too.

The oil is standard for Museum Replicas. It is to protect the metal from being tarnished during transport/storage. It can be wiped off easily with a soft cloth. As for the handle...

This could be an isolated incident

I saw a video review on youtube a while back and the details on the handle were very clear, the silver stripes were not 'faded' as they seem to be on yours

It's still ridiculous, to think someone boxed that up and said to themselves 'yeah, that'll do, that's worth $400'

Crazy

My hammer arrived today. The head looks okay and it feels substantial but the handle sucks. Also there are imperfections in the head itself (scribe lines that extend too far) that are worrisome (see pics). I think I'm gonna send it back. Sad, since I waited forever for this damn thing. :wacko

You can see some more quick and dirty unbox pics in that album as well.

EDIT: It doesn't have a "cap" on the handle either.

I spoke to Sideshow today. The receptionist said that they had inspected many of the hammers prior to going out, and noted that the handles on "quite a few of the hammers" seemed to be different from the photos that Museum Replicas sent out for the prototype. She apologized, and said that they weren't sent any replacement handles for any of the hammers. She did offer a full refund though.

I'm not upset AT ALL with Sideshow. They're always great to deal with. Museum Replicas can stuff it though. Thanks for the awesome $400 hammer guys :angry

Good thing I cancelled my preorder a few weeks ago, but sad to see that there's still no good licensed movie Mjolnir prop out there :( Damn it eFX, get your act together!

Reputation is everything. Their's is that you get what you get and if we decide to change the piece so we can save a few bucks, suck it up. Remember that disclaimer? The one that says what you get may be different from the prototype pics? Welp...guess what. :unsure

Museum Replicas does that constantly. I don't trust them and have not for years. Hopefully EFX's will be a nice replica. The issue with EFX is "when" it will come out as well just how many for those that ordered early enough.

I'll try to replace that crappy handle myself... I have a few ideas that I think will work great...
Anyway... I'll also wait for the eFX hammer. Wouldn't it be great if it were also metal made?

Finally got it, and yep, lives up to all the hype. Negative that is.

First, the sleeve was severely torn. Next, the handle is indeed ...ridiculous. Some painted lines, most not. The one in the pics above look great compared to mine. Handle wasn't straight on the hammer head, badly crooked. Lines on the head were poorly engraved. Looks like someone in a 7th grade shop class did the work. What a piece of crap.

Going back tomorrow. Nothing but wasted time and expectations.

I saw one of these in LA a few weeks back-- I actually laughed outloud when I saw it-- I cant believe that this is what they are offering-- I in no way feel bad about what I create and what I get for my pieces now

here are some pics I took
The "engraving" is simply acid etched, and not very deep I might add-- the handle is lackluster to say the least-- and the weight-- not what they claim at all-- if it weighs more than 8-10 lbs I would be surprised.

Gotta love marketing!!!
