Yes, I've seen it ONCE... at the Disney/MGM studios at WDW in 1989. The full-sized prop (was there more than one?) was in the backstage studio tour, behind the water effects stage/tank. He was hanging from the ceiling with a TON of other movie props, including the "flattened" Judge Doom from Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

No, I didn't take any pictures.

The "prop house" has now moved to a new location, and no, he isn't there. I've looked.

Where did he go? We know where VINCENT ended up.

Originally they were going to use it for the Villians display when you exit the castastrophe canyon attraction and enter the exhibition/gift shop.
The prop was so heavy they decided not use it.
They tried getting down with a forklift they had onsite but it couldn't support it and reach it for some reason.
They have storage areas and they did have the Palomino in there a few years ago.

I haven't heard where it is now or been there to investigate.
I did restore the Aliens suit and some other things they have on display at the Villians exhibit.
It's been a while since I worked with Disney on any projects directly but I could look into it.

Well, it's been exactly one year since anyone has responded to this post. Has anybody found Max yet? :confused

Just out of curiosity, where did VINCENT end up? Is it in a private collection, or on display somewhere?

I thought VINCENT (or one of him) was on display at Planet Hollywood in Orlando. I remember someone posting a pic of him because they had him displayed with his body facing the wrong way though he may have moved on since then. pharchivist might be the guy to ask.

Cheerio,

That would be a sweet thing to see in person:rolleyes
I will be at Disneyworld next month, I will check out that Planet Hollywood and see what's there.

Does anyone happen to know, or have a good guess at the the measurements of lovable ol' Max?

As best I can figure, going by the article in Cinefantastique, Max was from head to er...toe(?) exactly 72", six feet. He was always hovering about a foot off the ground, so he appeared to be about seven feet tall. I did some extrapolations based on movie stills, and it appears that his head is 10" high from the widest point, which is 16" to the narrowest point, which is 8" wide. As near as I can figure Max is about 42" wide from shoulder to shoulder.
This is by no means the gospel, I'm just going by what I calculated, if Max's true height is 72". I would love to build him next, after I finish V.I.N.CENT., but I would probably need a bigger house!:lol

lol. :cool

btw, I think the kit was more accurate than the miniature, somebody could have saved $6000 (bid est).

A Black Hole question I've always had is why doesn't Disney Channel ever play the movie....or any network for that matter :confused It's a great classic Sci-Fi movie and for the life of me I can't figure why it's left in limbo and DVD shelves...................................

I bought the DVD.
They really should do a remaster and remove the wire work!!!!:rolleyes

One of the most memorable parts of my holiday in Florida (apart from surviving on cheap wine, dollar tacobells and doing Timeshares for free Themepark tickets- we were broke!) was seeing the Maximillian prop up in the roof.

The only time I felt ill in a cinema was the through-the-book-scene, I was about 8 I guess.

Where do the behind the scene shots come from? was there ever a making of book?

Both the Cygnus and Max are at the Smithsonian. The Palomino is actually being restored for sale.

Yes - back in 1996 there was a VINCENT at the Orlando PH. I'll be going there again in two months so I can double check. And I think I might have been the one that posted that pic. At the time I did not consider if it was an original or a replica.

On the other hand, I really don't think I've ever seen Max at a PH.

FYI, the Profiles auction VINCENT was an 8" filming miniature.

There was a small (8") Vincent model in a plexi case in one of the clothes stores at the front of Disney MGM Studios.

Also check out the little prop store to the left inside the entrance to Disney MGM. The offerings are a mere shadow of the selection they use to have 10-15 years ago. Now it's mostly autographed pics but they might get something interesting. I remember seeing a plexi control panel from ST TNG. and they had Seaquest uniform bits, etc. when that show went off.
