What's your favorite glue?

I was working on some Halloween props this weekend and bemoaning hot glue... sometimes it works well and sometimes it doesn't hold at all.

I realize that a lot of times the "right glue for the job" is required (wood glue, epoxy, Gorilla glue, etc.), but overall what is your favorite glue to have on hand? One that will get you good results in just about any situation. One that you keep handy on the workbench.

Wonder if the mods will make this thread a "sticky". (Sorry, couldn't resist that one :angel )

Standard Krazy Glue, use it all the time. I've got about 80 of the little green pin caps sitting in a bin waiting for me to figure out something to do with them.

You are correct, there is a "right" adhesive for different needs. Trying to find that one "magic" glue that does all leads to frustration. That being said, I'll bet most of us have a couple of favorites. This probably reflects the types of projects we most often work on... For me, I have 3. First, I have a great collection of ACC adhesives, in a variety of flavors. Also keep a bottle of Jet Set handy (because "instant" isn't always fast enough!). For styrene welding, I use MEK. Works great and much less expensive than the small bottles of styrene glues (that are mostly MEK themselves). My 3rd favorite is PC-7 epoxy paste. Wonderful stuff!

the cheap walmart super glue for most items. My dad uses alot of 5 minute epoxy, E 6000 and other glues on his knife and jewelry projects.

E-6000 is getting hard to find around here at times oddly enough. It's my dad's favorite but it tends to be pricey so you have to use it sparingly.

permatex 5 minute epoxy

The crazy glues will get brittle over the years.

Loctite has a good line of super glues. Their Super Glue ULTRA Gel Control is for parts that flex slightly. It doesn't crack like other glues when flexed.

I've been using it to glue parts and as a filler.

Thanks!! I'll definitely look for that one in the stores. :)

There's this stuff we called elephant snot (among other names) I used in the service I loved using. It's an industrial aircraft grade epoxy. Dubl bubl(another epoxy in single packs), then crazy glue in gel format. For prosthetics I prefer medical adhesive. When duin small fast projects I use hot glue, which really works very well for alot of projects that don't get alot of stress on them.

I know it's not super glue. The other day I was glueing a rod on my chestbox and glued my fingers together. I managed to get them apart with some effort, but I hate that feeling of dried super glue on my skin.

I'm jumping on the Loctite train. Their Gel Control superglue is great, and their liquid stuff is good for certain things as well. It's been my preferred glue for pepakura too. Small dab, squeeze for 5-10 second, and its secure.
