What's with the kids shows and bad language?

As an adult I have no problem with it. Do you seriously want your neighbors thinking your kid is running around yelling "Dammit"? That's exactly what it sounds like if you are farther away. A neighbor girl he is friends with told him he couldn't play at her house because her parents heard him yelling bad words. So guess what it was? "Dammit", which we knew he was really "Gammit". Yeah ******* is correct, but again, why would you want your kid running around saying it? Maybe that's just me.

Sure it wouldn't bother me but then dammit isn't considered bad or offensive language over here, if it were i would do the same as i would if they were dropping f-bombs and tell them it's a bad word and don't say it or else.

That's ok the shows today that kids watch make me want to start playing South Park style Roshambo with the creators of them, Shows like Chowder, Adventure Time, Regular Show, Robotomy, and I can go on and on with names of retarded cartoons that kids watch these days, the only educational cartoons that are on, are shown at 3am in the morning like Captain Planet or Where in the World is Carmen San Diego. I would rather have my 8 year old brother watch Family Guy or something liek that over the brainless cartoons on nowadays.

Personally I believe that is up the the parent and part of parenting that shouldn't be passed off as the responsibility of TV or any corporation... If you find it offensive and don't want your kid repeating it then as a parent enforce that policy and instruction... That is the way I was brought up, I heard LOTS and LOTS of things I wasn't allowed to repeat as a child, my parents stepped in and made it clear that for 'me' that was inappropriate language and it's use was forbidden as far as 'I' was concerned...

Yes, I agree with this, but I grew up in the era where the entertainment industry (music, movies and TV) shared some of the responsibility. A parent could rest assured that what their kids were listening to on the the radio and watching on TV were pretty family friendly. And when a movie was PG it was pretty sanitized. PG13 is the new R.

I can't think of one TV show I watched growing up that had a disclaimer in front of it before it aired, or a song on the radio that had to be edited or bleeped.

The "adult" industry was also very separated. Now, porn stars have become part of pop culture.

I have a 15 year old son and it's a constant battle trying to make sure what he watches and what he listens too doesn't cross the line to much.

My Pop, who is as liberal as they come, who didn't put too many reigns on us as kids, who cusses worse than Ol Man Parker, tells me all the time he is glad he doesn't have to raise kids today.

And pretty much every generation says something along those lines, society isn't stuck in time, it's constantly evolving and thus every generation says "It wasn't like that when I was growing up"...

No it wasn't like that when so and so was growing up but that doesn't necessarily make it wrong, I'm sure our parents were not happy with many of the social norms while we were growing up, ironically the norms we feel are 'correct' and now try to pass on to the next generation...

I think the big problem is people get set in their ways way too much, and believe that is the only 'right' way, a 'right' way that evolves with every new generation...

You grew up in the 70s, yeah? There were a million songs that were edited for AM radio (Elton John's "Saturday Night's All Right for Fightin'" comes to mind, with its "sound of a switchblade and a motorbike" being changed to "six-pack" which is obviously more family friendly heh heh) or outright beeped (Charlie Daniels' "Uneasy Rider" had "their heads were on fire and their asses were catchin'" beeped right out.

Not that your point isn't taken; it's just there was a whole lot of beepin' going on back then, and the Eighties weren't much better.

You're right because they simply didn't broadcast anything the conservative people might object to so there wasn't as much need to bleep or broadcast warnings.
Yay for censorship and lack of personal choice and responsibility. :)

Less censorship now and you get to choose if a certain program might or might not be something appropriate to watch, seems like a better option to me.

Some of it was pretty silly like MTV refusing to air Eurythmics videos because they thought Annie Lennox might be a transvestite. :lol

But, but... Everyone wants freedoms and no censorship or editing only as long as it's inline with their own personal standards...

I realized that Larry, it just wasn't as bad as today. I was a music junkie. I had the radio playing 24/7 and I just don't remember too much of it. (Oh, you forgot Charlie Daniels Devil Went down to Georgia.."Son of B***h to Son of a Gun" and Steve Miller Jet Airliner "funky Kicks" replaced "Funky ****".

But...to be fair, some of the movies of the early 80's were borderline porn (well not quite, but you get the idea). Porky's, Last American Virgin, Fast Times, Private Lessons. I saw more T&A then than I do now (not that I am looking :angel)

Defstar...having kids changes the game. I don't know of any parent, liberal or conservative who wants their kids to have access to everything.

Truly, this takes the notorious RPF "complaining" threads to a whole 'nother level!

Are you complaining?

Maybe we need to start a new thread...

What's with the *BEEP* RPF and all the *BEEP* complaining™ ? :lol

I know, but I thought I better clarify, so I don't get told to get off someone's lawn.

Naw, I didn't forget anything; I only provided two examples because we'd be here all night trading anecdotes and I have good Scotch to drink in a couple hours. :)

I do love how you can't say b***h on the RPF but the filter has no trouble with "asses."

Absolutely thats what the warnings are for, so they can broadcast stuff that might be unsuitable for kids and let adults choose what they want to watch rather than censor as much as in previous years.

Because ass isn't a rude word, although i'll concede it's varely rarely used in the terms it's meant to be. :D

And neither is the other word technically...

Amazing that such a simple concept gets lost...
