What the Heck is This Thing Called???

Gone but not forgotten.

I want one for my living room/ home theater whenever I get to it, but I can't find one anywhere! I've searched for "chrome etagere", "glass etagere", "diamond etagere", "chrome glass shelves", and God knows how many other combinations, but nothing ever comes up. These things were available all over the place up into the early 90's, so all I can figure is that it's called something other than "etagere"...

Any suggestions? I could probably make one out of 1" square aluminum tube, but what a a royal pain that'd be... :unsure

Thanks!

I would try diamond shelf or something to that effect. Maybe art deco shelf or Square metal shelf, Diamond bookcase?

I always thought it was just a normal shelf or stand that was set on a angle as I've not seen anything else like it.

Knick knack shelf might do it.

Big in the 70's.

I've seen some nice wood diamond ones and other shapes in containers of UK pre-war furniture shipped here for auction as "antiques"

I've never seen a chrome one outside the movie, but you used to be able to find these in brass/ gold virtually any place that sold cheap furniture. They were so common, I can't believe there aren't any on eBay or Google- I've GOT to be calling it by the wrong name or something. :confused

Retro shelf, deco furniture, chrome shelving unit, glass and chrome display?

Totally 70's, kills me everytime I see that thing.

Remember that a lot of the gold stuff was just chrome with a clear coat of yellow. May have been a gold one with the yellow clear coat removed.

Hmmm, true true... If I can ever find one, I'll have to try that! :)

I was just watching the 3rd episode of TNG (The Naked Now) and this item was in Troy's quarters.

I have just recently found one in an Antique store. It is being used to hold other items and the clerk could not tell me if it was for sale or not (consignment situation). I am going back to see if I can get it. More antiques for my collection. ;)

I can tell you it is chrome and not brass. It looks exactly like the one in ST II.

Cool! If you can get it, look for any manufacturer info on it! :)

If you were in the UK I could make that for you, but the shipping would be :cry

I make custom TV/COFFEE tables so that would be ok to do!!! :)
