What is a good model to start in scratchbuilding?

Hands down a snow speeder. all straight cuts. no forming. doesnt get any easier than that. not to say its easy, but i think its a great first scratch build. and theres good reference for it.

any questions ask my man 3-D builder doing a another great speeder.

A snowspeeder is a cool model. Are those plans accurate? I can´t find anything but this.

Thanks!

A sandcrawler would be great but it would be a lot of work cutting out those treads. How about something like this?

I would buy the Fine molds kit and just scale it up. its a great way to learn, and not to bad of a kit. you can get star wars chronicles for good reference pics. look for a used copy its alot cheaper.

I'd definitely go Tie Bomber .. that's my first and current and I love it. So many people have done it that pretty much all info is out there so you just have to prepare and get the kits you want and build it!

Honestly, the best thing to start with in scratchbuilding is just making basic shapes. try making some, then you have a better idea with what you feel comfortable with building. If the first thing you try is too hard, it might turn you off to the hobby.

Oddly enough a Battlestar Galactica BLASTER would be the best thing to start with.

If you're talking building and bashing.

It's small and simple and uses the same techniques as scratch model building.

Trek TOS shuttlecraft! Just hard enough but not TOO hard.:cool

Yes, that's what I was thinking also. Galileo 7

You mean, like this? (I'd start looking at Post #45 and after) Studio-scale TOS Shuttlecraft :)

I'd definitely agree that the TOS Shuttlecraft is a good scratch-build to start with.

It's got a lot of straight edges and angles, which is easy enough to do, but does have a curve or two which requires some forming.

Great way to hone one's skills, especially if you're new to the whole scratch-building thing.
