Warhammer 40,000 Grey Knight

The first of the parts finally were shipped today. A rough estimate on just the costs for the arms/shoulder is around $170 or so. I'm guessing the cost will be about the same for the lower body.
The back/spine might cost about the same, I won't know until I've figure out how to attach it. Total cost will be around $500?

After that, I can look into buying the sheet metal and figuring out how to attach it. I'll start with the upper body first.

Sounds heavy! Good luck with the project! I'll be keeping an eye on your progress.

I received the package today, but to my surprise, I was only shipped 7 of the 8 parts... Time to talk with the company or dispute the payment with the credit card company...
Ugh...

In the meantime, I can start assembling and measuring the right parts needed to make the arms.

So... I was refunded for missing one piece, I'll have to wait for restock (as I'll only be able to form one side of the upper body). Haven't done any real "work" on it, due to a job change.

Part of me wants to build just the 'normal' exoskeleton frame, but the other portion wants to make a larger frame to accommodate the mechanical hand (seen in one of the previous posts)... but this would require the modified stilts like those on the Skeletonics model. Of course the larger frame will be heavier in combination with the Power Armour plates. Not sure, we'll see how the upper body works out.

I did order some more parts to attach the aluminum round (also ordered). When the parts get here, I'll go pick up the right length screws and maybe post some pictures...

any build pictures.?

Nope, apart from the elbow (which is super simple), getting the shoulder the right size and position is near impossible without some assistance, which I have none at the moment. In addition, my work schedule has changed and my "free-time" is subjugated to practicing tuba (EEEb (that's not a typo, it's a subcontrabass) and BBb, and occasionally Eb) for the couple of ensembles I'm in.

In any case, I'm starting to see the limitations of my design, I may take a note from Whiplash (of Marvel) and build a "shell". Even mocking-up the elbow, I've noticed that I have about 110 degree movement - from straight to bent. Add on the potential armor and the angle at which I would be able to bend my arm diminishes... meaning taking off a helmet is more difficult and straining.

Good thing aluminum is cheap, I'm sure I can use the parts I bought for something else.

First off: I love an ambitious build! And this one is definitively one of them!
Beeing an engineering student and and lifelong maker myself I like to make myself believe that more is possible, than would be wise to believe possible :D

I didn't completely read every sentence you wrote, yet, but do you want to build this directly from aluminium and steel? You must have heard of the principle of the "garbage bag test" so called after stan winstons early alien queen test!?

I'd build the mechanics in cardboard or other cheap stuff first, because with a project as complex as this, you're most likely to run into serious problems at some point. (I've been there myself, but on a much smaller scale than your project)
This could not only save you hundreds of dollars, but - much more important - give you the confidence, that your plans actually can work! :thumbsup
So, keep it up and provide some pics once in a while, will you ?! :cheers :D
