Wand CO. Phaser 1 repair?

Has anybody tried to repair their Wand Co. Phaser One? Mine will charge but won't emit sound anymore, sadly. - mh

One of mine was acting erratic, sometimes making weird sounds, or not working at all I found one of the gold pins on the phaser 2 broken. Not sure how to fix that.

Now it doesn't work at all, I think the pin was there for a while and maybe damaged before it finally fell off.

My phaser 1 won’t charge anymore, as soon as I plug it in it shows as completely charged, then unplug and it’s dead. Anyone know how to open it up?

here is another thread that might be more fruitful but not so far, yet.

Luckily I haven't had any issues or need to get into a Wand P1 yet but there will come a day for everyone when there will be a need to get inside when the battery no longer takes a charge.

The problem is getting inside without breaking anything that would show on the outside. I wish someone would post an in depth step by step process with videos, But all I've seen is pictures of some already taken apart and all I've heard is you need to use a xacto knife and be careful.

I'd like to know exactly where the joints are that need to be cut and what they look like because I'm not just going to probe around and maybe destroy a very expensive to replace prop.

The Phaser was probably not designed to enable repair, like most things. From the picture, it looks like there are two molded halves. If the glue they used to join those two halves, has not melted those pieces together, you may be ably to pry them open. But this can be a very risky process as this may crack the parts or at the very least, ruin the paint job.

You may have to make a decision whether to just have a display prop without working lights/sounds or risk opening up the two halves and possibly wrecking it. You may be able to put the cracked pieces back together, but it will, most likely, require filler, sanding and paint. It could be a very simple fix as to replacing a battery or resoldering a wire, but then again, the electronics could be unrepairable.

I propose they make a new stand alone P1, redesigned with a replaceable battery. One that works with the older P2's. It would be a big seller, since many with the original would buy it for the replaceable battery, plus everyone else. It would not ruin the value of the originals either. I'll buy anything they put out for Star Trek.

As the electronics die in the Wand Phasers, I take it as an opportunity to strip-down, paint, replace the metal, replace the grip, replace the side-ribs and top-ribs, etc….and overall “accurize” the model to resemble more of the actual prop.

It’s what I did with my “dead” Wand Phaser:

I love your color choices.
- Phaser II Body - Krylon Shadow Gray

- Phaser I Body - Custom mix of Tamiya Satin Black and German Gray

- Phaser II Grip - Mr. Metal Color Iron

Yes, I’m one of those poor lost souls who believes that the first two seasons the Phasers had darker-colored metallic handles and that the current “Bronze” color seen on the heroes is the result of a third season touch-up.

Here is the evidence that I point to:

A verified original midgrade with an apparently darker metallic grip;

Paint flaking off of the Jein grip revealing what appears to a a darker metallic paint under the bronze paint:

And what appears to be darker paint under the bronze paint on the grip of the recently-auctioned Finney Phaser:

Finally, the dark metallic “Reserve Phaser Power Packs” used in Season Two’s “The Omega Glory”:
