VIDEO: Baltar's execution in the 1978 Battlestar Galactica series

I was alive at the time, and my memory may be suspect, but I recall seeing the BG theatrical release (as well as the Buck Rogers theatrical release!) in theaters here in the U.S. I believe that he WAS executed in the theatrical release. But they retconned the event for the TV series, to keep Baltar as the antagonist.

Sorry, that doesn't sound credible.

Next you'll tell me John-Boy Walton saved the universe in a movie !

or...

or that Sean Connery wore a Speedo

The Theatrical release did have him executed

Did your theatre have the surroundsound for the Movie

Mine did, Universal dragging out that system out that was first used for “Earthquake”

I honestly can't remember about the sound system... what really "stuck" in my mind were the freaky Tucana sisters and their "Love, Love, Love" song, and the Ovions entombing their prey.

I've seen Battlestar Galactica more times than I can count and I didn't realize we actually get a glimpse of the face of the Imperious Leader.

Well... we never did. For broadcast TV, the I.L was always shot in shadow, or from behind. The clip above was (apparently) never used.

And his appearance was changed for the Battle of Galactica attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood.

Weird, I know they had a toy of the imperious leader

Galactica was originally intended to be a "movie of the week" series, like Columbo or McMillan And Wife, with a two hour episode every month or so. Baltar was killed in the first episode as seen in the theatrical version. But when ABC asked for the show as a weekly series it was decided to keep Baltar around as a recurring villain, with a new scene of Baltar being spared added to the pilot.

I saw the theatrical release with Universal's Sensurround system, not surround but ultra low bass.

..and that James Cameron worked on the special effects for it...

..and was a replacement for Burt Reynolds, after he left due to ilness.

Now you're just crazy talkin' !
Cameron built Nell!

I remember when Hatch was desperately trying to get the series rebooted. He was even walking the floor at conventions talking to people about it.

Back when celebrities did that dort of thing.

Remember when Hatch was promoting a game at conventions, where he was a fighter pilot? Like a really bold, confident, righteous pilot. He'd talk for most of the panel, hype it up, then showed a not-very-good teaser.

He wanted soooo badly to be a part of the Battlestar reboot, and complained and criticized until they made him a character on the show.

And then his criticism stopped.

I have no ill will towards him, but I cant forget how nothing was good until they brougt him on board.

He not only walked the floors of Cons but hung out with fans

I first met him in 1979 at a con

A shame his concept was not used, he was truely “one of us”
