Very misleading Iron Man eBay auction

There is an auction on eBay right now (not sure if I can post a link) for a (search for it)

1-1-LIFE-SIZE-IRONMAN-STATUE-PROP-COSTUME-FREE-BONUS- by eBay member venombitess

pictured in the auction pics are the life sized statue, licensed helmet, and a silver torso as a FREE gift, and he offers free shipping

BUT

If you read the answers to the questions the LIFE SIZED STATUE is NOT included in the sale, he is selling the licensed helmet and giving away the torso for free. He also goes on to explain HE does not charge for shipping but UPS charges $150.00

in the auction listing he states shipping is free. then later in the write up says the UPS will charge the winner $150 wtf? that of in itself is shady and bad business practice.
The winner of this auction is going to be mighty surprised by the mystery shipping cost and what exactly he or she's paying for.

I don't see what's so misleading...

UP FOR AUCTION IS A LICENSED LIFE SIZE WEARABLE IRONMAN HELMET AND FULLY PADDED FOR WEARING (COPYRIGHT DISGUISE 2004 MARVEL) THIS IS THE CLASSIC COMIC BOOK VERSION AND IS VERY LIGHT WEIGHT AND IS PAINTED IN A HIGH GLOSS GOLD AND RED PAINT.

this means you are bidding on the red and gold helmet in the pictures.

AS AN ADDED BONUS THE WINNING BIDDER WILL ALSO RECIEVE FOR FREE A 1:1 SCALE MK2 IRONMAN PARTIAL UPPER TORSO INCLUDING SHOULDER BELLS AND CHEST PLATE!! MADE MOSTLY FROM RESIN AND FIBERGLASS . THE EYES AND ARC REACTOR LIGHT UP AND GLOW BLUE POWERED BY A 9V EL LIGHTING SYSTEM.

This means you get a free upper torso with shoulders and chestplate. he says the eyes light up so that means the silver head is also included with the torso.

I DO NOT CHARGE FOR SHIPPING. THE WINNING BIDDER WILL PAY UPS UPON DELIVERY FOR THE SHIPPING COSTS WHICH WILL BE APPROX $150 FOR CANADA AND THE US.

he doesn't cover the shipping, you do by paying UPS Cash On Delivery, not paying him upfront to cover the costs.

pretty clear-cut if you read the listing.

Your missing the point that the auction is for a "1-1-LIFE-SIZE-IRONMAN-STATUE" and under cost of the shipping he states shipping is free.

The 1-1 life sized Iron Man statue (which is pictured in the main pic) is not part of the auction even though it is listed as the item for sale

Oops.
good point.
i totally missed the listing title.
yeah, that is misleading.

Yeah - i saw this earlier today and kind of scratched my head. To me it would make more sense to list the free bonus as the the marvel iron man helmet and make the auction for the "1:1 SCALE MK2 IRONMAN PARTIAL UPPER TORSO INCLUDING SHOULDER BELLS AND CHEST PLATE" the main auction piece.

ohhh well......

G

He also shows a comics-based helmet, which is totally irrelevant to the auction. So is the 1:1 life size Iron Man statue right behind the auction item.

What gets me is he does not seem to think thee is anything wrong with listing "free shipping" if he asking them to pay UPS

Well, since he stated in the description what he is really selling it is in his legal rights to do that. i guess she just attracts ebayers to click on his item by saying that he is selling a 1:1 statue. i would click on it if i saw it. just a bit of false advertising.

as if in an adver you say "our product is completely safe" and then in the end really fast you say "our product may cause severe damage, use at your own risk". that should be legal ;)

Yeah I saw this. I found it odd as well. I think the reason for the confusion is that he's trying to draw attention away from the torso that he actually wants to sell which is an unlicensed
Replica. So he's throwing in licensed items thinking
Marvel is retarded.

That's all I got.

The shipping part is just plain dumb.

that particular auction may have been pulled but there's now another one up!

"Up for auction is a converted Licensed OXMOX statue( no copyright infringment. This life size prop is made from fiberglass and has been partially converted to be a wearable costume of armor or just a great display piece. It was recently used in a ironman fan film and needs a new home (my wife wants in out of the garage). the prop has been repainted and gold 18kt paint has been used on the trim!! the helmet has been converted to be wearable and has a removable face plate and full e/l lighting 9v system installed. the chest fits people with with a size 46 chest or smaller. the chest also has the e/l lighting system and 9 volt power source installed. this is a must have for the die hard ironman fan.! Shipping will not be charged by me as I will ship using UPS and they will be charging the shipping charge direct to the winning bidder upon delivery. Estimate for shipping to Canada and Us will be around $150 range"
