Here we go again... I am back to thinking.

Whoa Boy. :cry

Anyways, while digging (and still waiting on a good set to pop) for ESB Gloves to mod I stumbled across these.

WWII Desert goggles worn by the Germans. Pretty cool. Looking at the color of the lenses got me thinking.

So I bought them and today tried them in my SPFX beater lid. They look pretty damn good. These fit to the eye holes pretty dead on too. Exact? Maybe not. I think it looks pretty close. Ill have to take a shot in helmet, I am still deciding if I want to make them bubbles. That would mean tearing them apart.

Good thinking! But, wouldn't these have a flat lense appearance? ANH lenses were slightly bubbled. I guess they could have used a heated spoon.....

Yep... I would have to bubble them. Thats the rub. Destroying a 60 year old part for a SciFi Prop...:lol

Before I jacked up an Historical artifact I would be very sure of what I was doing. I'd rather wait for a decent set of replica lenses unless someone could conclusively prove those goggles are what they used.

I've got three Vader helmets waiting for decent lenses so I feel your pain--lol.

Instead of harming the prop, you are in a most unique position to use that as a basis of comparison for color, hue and thickness, especially if you approach plastic sheet/film supplies to do a comparison or custom fabrication.

Also, when you say they fit the eye holes pretty dead on, what mask make/brand are you comparing it to? And if you bubble the material, will you decrease the surface area the base of the lens can cover?

I'm pretty sure the originals were custom made for the helmet, formed or vacced out of stock plastic and tinted (or colored plastic was used).

Great color, I agree you should analyze the color for similarities.

How best should I take photos then? What are you all looking for on color comps?

I have the TD is ultimately the one these were bought for, I just used the SPFX real quick for it was handy. Ill be using that as my base lid for shots.
