Vader ANH/ESB Chest Box questions

Couple of questions on chest boxes. Sorry if this has been covered before but could not find a good reference thread...

1) On the chest box "lights" what is the orientation of the found parts? The read and green Micro Switches. They have a little lip on the underside that sticks out and I was not sure if that went toward the middle or to the outside of the box. :confused

2) The coin slots had nothing in them right? I know they did not have lights, but it seems like they do not have red "lenses" either. Is that correct? Are they filled with anything or just hollow?

2a) The coinslots just sit on top of the box right? They are not countersunk into it at all?

3) Ok, this moves to ESB finally - Did the ESB boxes use the same Micro Switches with the outer rim just painted black or were they a different kind of switch?

Thanks!

1) to the right hand side of the box.

2) Hollow

2a) Depends who you talk to. I say sunk.

3) Different switch altogether.

Coin slots were countersunk. Those red/green lenses were only used in the ANH chestbox. Altogether different shape for ESB/ROTJ.

On the countersink was the flat part of the coin slot flush with the surface of the box or did it stick up just slightly? In ESB they look like they come just a hair above the surface of the box - a little tough to tell though since they were painted black. The ANH pics I have seen look like the slots are raised a bit off the surface, though they do not look very even, raised more on one end (left side facing the box) than the other a little. Don't know if that is a screen used box though.

So ESB/ROTJ just had the perspex in a frame, kind of like the SA boxes? Not sure what the original part was for those.

Thx again.

Ok, time to resurrect this thread with a new question.

What part is used for the blue and red "lights" on the ESB chestbox? Is this a found part (switch or something) that was added or was it molded directly into the chestbox?
Thx

They were/are just pilot lights often found in industrail elect. control panels. I forget the correct size however:redface

Only thing that ever lit up on the chestbox in ESB/ROTJ were the coinslots. The blue/red buttons did not light up. As far as ANH goes there were no lights at all on the chestbox..

The ESB/ROTJ red/blue lights were simply cast resin buttons that were painted. I am almost certain they were cleaned up and slightly altered castings of the ANH chestbox buttons. The ANH buttons have lots of undercuts and I believe these were filled in on the ESB and ROTJ boxes. Then painted.

Right, my apologies... I realize that they did not actually light up. Just trying to figure out what they were. They do not look much like the ANH lights to me, but maybe.

Perhaps a better question to ask, is what does everyone use for them? They looks like panel lights, but not sure from what.

Thanks everyone!

That lense is for ANH only. You'd have to modify it for ESB/ROTJ. For instance, two of the sides of the top level must be filled in with bondo to make four squared off sides.......... or to put it another way........all undercuts need to be filled in with bondo. So it looks like a small rectangular box sitting on a slightly larger rectangular box. That would be correct for ESB/ROTJ.

Dave :)

Thanks Dave. That makes sense from what I have seen. I assume they just painted the tops of these then once they were filled?

Any idea if they just used an old ANH box and then filled it painted the lenses and then added new switches, greeblies, rods and lights?
