I'm sure this has been discussed here by the vader experts previously, but I was wondering if anyone had made any progress or if it's worth discussing a bit more.
To my eyes, at least the red part of the vader ANH belt box buttons may be a found part, if not the metal part too. The red part looks like plastic or vinyl. It could be rubber but it appears to have some reflective/shine in the available photos. In some of the photos, it appears that the red parts are a flexible material as they appear somewhat shifted on one or two of the buttons.
Since other greeblies in the movie and on vader specifically have come from aircraft, military, electronic or industrial sources, we can assume those areas as places to start and perhaps add automotive or medical sources. I've searched around a bit and the red part looks like an EEG machine electrode plug/jack or an electrical grommet through which wiring is fed through and isolated from the frame in an aircraft or car.
The metal "tip" part looks like either a custom machined aluminum piece, or perhaps the tip of a spark plug or electrode/probe/plug from an industrial or medical source.
Any thoughts or discussion?
