US Navy Talker helmet dimensions?

Just looking for some help from members who've got access to a US Navy Talker helmet.


I'm trying to teach myself how to sculpt a 3D model with SketchUp, so that I can export it to make a Pepakura file. My all-time favourite helmet I'd love to own is the US Talker – zero chance here in New Zealand with a miniscule hobby budget...


I've checked the various posts and done an RPF search without finding anything definitive on specifications. No luck finding anything online, apart from one site quoting these measurements - Dimensions: 8.5" H x 11.25" W x 12.75" D. Metric or imperial measurements are fine – I'm old enough to speak both.


Is there someone who has a helmet and who is prepared to post some measurements or confirm the ones above? If possible with the helmet sitting at about the angle shown in the sketch? Doesn't have to be super accurate – it's for a pep model.


Last of all – does anyone have a bird's-eye-view photo of one? It'd be useful for sculpting the shape of the bowl.

I don't have a real one, but I have a replica RFT helmet that uses the Talker as a base...

Here's the measurements of the one I have (i.e. U.S.N. MK-2).

Front to back: 13.25 inches
Height: 9 inches (roughly)
Width: 11 inches

I used a tape measure, so I'm sure it's not exact, but that shoud get you in the ballpark.

Btw, there's already a pep file of the Rebel Fleet Trooper helmet floating around, if that's what you were planning on modeling... it's not accurate by any means, but it is out there.

I've made the pep version and I'm going to try a slightly higher-poly version for myself, mainly as an exercise to learn SketchUp. If I succeed, I'll post the PDO file for anyone interested.

If anyone has a photo of the helmet from above, that'd be a great help also, thanks.

True, but it's only about 1 inch in height at the back of the helmet and spans about 2 inches on either side from center. It's not that noticable and fairly irrelevant for Star Wars helmets, so I wouldn't worry too much about it... the neck guard of a RFT or DST helmet would cover that up anyway.

Now in the case of a DSG helmet, the flare might be of importance, but I thought the flare was rounded off... not 100% sure about that. :confused
