Under the Dome TV Series Discussion

So.. apparently this isn't the same story at all except for the main premise and the name of a few of the characters... and this is just going to hell in a handbasket. Terrible acting. Terrible changes... pointless additions that are horribly ham fished and none of which add to or make the story interesting on any level. This is television at its worst. Makes me really sad as I love this story (relistening to the audiobook right now) and was looking forward seeing it played out on television. In three episodes, they have simply made me not care at all.

The only character I can't stand is the red headed journalist, and I don't know if its the acting or because she's so nosey up in everybody's business. She's pretty to look at, but always reminds me of a live verison of the Pixar Brave character.

The Latino cop is someone I want to like, but I don't feel is tough enough that I believe she's a cop. Maybe because I keep wondering how awesome Michelle Rodriguez would nail that part. Unless she's supposed to be weak so her character arc is that she becomes confident. She does rock that police uniform though.

The two kids having seizures looked kind of fake as they were side by side saying the falling stars line, which made me laugh. This episode also ended really weird in that it just ended abruptly.

I lost interest in this show very quickly. Usually it takes a few episodes but 2 is all I can stand. The story is semi-interesting but the actors aren't doing enough for me to really care about their characters. Same thing happened with Revolution. Oh well.

Most of the characters I either do not care about or actively dislike. Too one dimensional and stereotypical. The ones I do care about are:
- The boy who has seizures. One of the few intelligent characters so far. He is trying to figure things out.
- The red head. Not just because she's hot.
- Barbie. I am trying to figure out if he works for a bookie or drug dealer. Maybe the guy he killed was the go between for the city drug lab and a supplier.

I am going to give this another episode or two before I give up.

You were right about Barbie's profession, enforcer being right around with the bookie part. Also, I liked the red head chick and most of the other characters a lot better this week. I think they're all growing on me the more time I spend with them. No matter how b-movie-ish it gets, I'll watch this all the way till end.

I didn't even know my parents were watching this until i saw it on the dvr last night. They've never read the book so to them it's probably pretty good. I'll have to ask when they get back.

Sorry to be a broken record, but another pointless episode in which nothing has really happened. I don't think I would mind the extreme changes from the book so much if this were actually interesting and the characters were engaging... but it isn't, and they aren't. :(

Is Barbie still the same as the book? I was reading some where, maybe that was here, that he was changed. I was waiting to check out the book after this ended. The Stand and IT are being remade, and there was two the Shinings, so this could always be remade.

I was hoping that the dome was a giant contact lens a space giant creature just lost. I haven't wanted to read any spoilers yet, but I'm assuming by now it's not. Hehe

Didn't read the book but watching the series.
So far it's pretty bad.
Characters are one dimensional archetypes.
People say and do things that are pretty irrational, when you stop and think about it for a minute.

I hope the novel isn't this bad.

Interracial lesbian couple with a daughter in a hick town? Of course they are enlightened and educated. Their daughter, of course, is wise beyond her years. How could it be otherwise?
Evil Mayor with secret scheme? Check.
Crazy bible thumping minister? Check.
Stranger in town with a dark past? Check.

The book is actually really good. Very very different. It is a much better story of "what would happen if?"

Felt the same way. Just rollled my eyes at holllywood's ham-fitsted attempt to be progressive. The book had none of these character.

Evil Mayor with secret scheme? Check.
Crazy bible thumping minister? Check.

Both of these are in the book but they are written MUCH better. Big Jim Renny is truly terrifying in the book. He is more slimey and scummy than the imposing/physical type you see in the show.

The show also seems to flipflop back and forth on some characters.. basicallly, trying to string this out and slow their fall. In the book, things fall apart frighteningly fast.

Stranger in town with a dark past? Check.

A completely unnecessary addition to Barbie's character from the book. While he does have an extensive military background, all this other silliness we saw with him in the first episode isn't' in the book and created pointless distraction from the true issue at hand; how people and society slowly fall apart under the dome.

*****, in one episode they go from everyone hanging out in the diner eating and wasting food to become psychotic rioters. This show is now profoundly stupid.

I keep watching this show, although I certainly do not think it is particularly good. I figured it would be like a mini-series, 1 season with an ending, so I want to see the whole thing before I pass too much judgement. Looks like that will not be the case now though:

UNDER THE DOME Gets Season Two!! Stephen King To Write First Episode!! - Ain't It Cool News: The best in movie, TV, DVD, and comic book news.

They are doing a 2nd season now, apparently, and the show is #1 in the ratings. Mind blown.

A one season show like Last Resort would make a lot more sense. I keep telling myself I am goIng to stop recording it but each week the preview looks just interesting enough to give it one more week.

It really bugs me that nobody has done some of the things I would do. The boy figured out how big the is nobody has gone to the center to see if there is some sort of generator. I am really tempted to just give up and find the Cliffs notes version.

Just watched Episode 7 and have removed this series from Tivo. This is not Under the Dome. This is not Stephen King. This is absolute and utter crap with no redeeming value at all. There is just nothing here worth wasting my time on. This is not even a train wreck. It just just very bad television. I am officially out. To think... I was so excited to see this brought to life. :thumbsdown

Pretty much I have the same thoughts. They aren't even attempting to follow the book anymore. But for some odd reason I can't stop watching this train wreck,...from the over the top crappy acting to the horrible story changes. I can only relate it to a car crash where I dont want to watch but I make myself.

On another note.....the wife loves it, same with my mom.

I'm curious to the people who knew nothing about the book if they're enjoying it at all?

Yeah my mom loves the show but hasn't read the book. Her taste in shows is horrid anyhow lol.

When the wonder twins touch hands and suddenly lapse into status epilepticus ...

... how do they conclude the dome is sentient and trying to deliver them a message?

did I miss a logical step somewhere?

A large region is surrounded by a large spherical border ...

... and it take 6 episodes for someone to explore the epicenter?

10 minutes into the first episode I was shouting, "Look in the middle, you idiots!"

The Dome is soundproof.

I would think the entire perimeter would have been surrounded by relatives communicating with big signs , no?

If everyone is getting power with a limited propane supply, how come people don't seem to be doing much to ration their power? At night people have no problem keeping every single light on in their house.

Is the very top of the dome open? Is that how they're getting air? Or are they supposed to think about looking up there next season? Or is the dome permeable to air but not sound?

Are they going to explain the rationale behind sending a nuclear missile to destroy a town surrounded by an invisible dome? It made no sense to me.

Admittedly I'm not really paying much attention nowadays so maybe some of these have been addressed already.
