U.S.G. Ishimura

Having seen Wes' thread with his necromorph sculpture, I decided I should go ahead and get going on a model project I've wanted to do since I first played Dead Space- the Ishimura. This will be my first scratchbuild model, and will likely be the largest model I'll have constructed to date. I still need to gather some resources, as well as accurately determine the exact size of her, but I will update as the project moves along. Any recommendations anyone may have for material is welcome.

I'm bidding on the art of dead space book so if i win i'll see what it has. Have you tried the wiki on dead space?

Yes I have, a lot of it is just concept art, but it has a larger, high-res image of the map they used for the loading screen, as well as comparative sketches between it and the Kellion and Valor, so I may just fire up the first game and get the size of the Kellion. I've also got the shirt Bioware is selling with the schematic on the front, so that should help as well.

If you make a run of this, I would LOVE to put one together. I'll be watching this build closely. I've emailed the Dead Space staff and asked why they haven't come out with a model yet. Lord knows we all want one!.

Take your time. I'm still trying to save up for the kit of the Mass effect 2 ship they were working on another site lol.

I'll see what other ishimura images i can find though. I bet i can get screen caps off of Downfall to help out. I think most of the stuff in that book is online anyhow.

Here's what I could find:

Hope it helps!

Cool. Have to see what version he wants to make because the one in the game is uber detailed while the one in the animation is less detailed if i remember right. Personally i'd make this about the size of the wooden ship models you find or star trek at 1:350 or maybe bigger. Anyone else look at the ship and get the feeling of it being an old style sailing ship from the front end's shape? they look like sails

I'm pretty sure those are armor panels. Beings they work around drifting chucks of rock, it would make sense that it needs protection just in case. The entire ship looks like it's made of glass for the most part under the panels.

Now, with exams out of the way for now, more time to focus on this.

Tentatively this will be around the 1:350 scale, but depending on how much and how detailed the artwork I can get a hold of in the meantime, that is subject to change. For the meantime this is a strictly personal build, I've loved the Ishimura since I first laid eyes on her in the first game, but if it turns out well I may do a limited run. At the very least I will take as many pictures of the build process as I can and put up some public blueprints.

http://deadspace.wikia.com/wiki/USG_Ishimura If you look at the very bottom in the trivia area it says that nobody is sure how big it is but "The size of the Ishimura is unknown, but it is possible that the ship is around a half-mile to a mile long, considering the size of the ship compared to other planets and asteroids and the need for a tram system." They also have other neat facts.

I got some screencaps but I'm going to see if i can email them to him instead of posting them just for the fact that i want to keep them pretty large so he can see the details.

I think all the photos of the ship i got as screencaps from Downfall might have scared him off lol.

Yeah i haven't seen him on. Hopefully it's just real life getting in the way and nothing major.
