Tutorial: Modifying Iron Man II Repulsor Toy

OK, this is another modification as I was 'lent' the toy for a week. And so, I would like to share the findings with you. I hope to make Page 2 by tonight since I just realised I only have less than 6 hours to come up with a cheesy prototype arm to put the toy in but my Dad just told me our family Drill broke....:rolleyes

But just in case it does not work out, the tutorial is enough for you to disassemble the toy and modify into anohter casing or costume. You just have to figure out how to replace the normal AAA battery holder with a 3x AA battery holder. As for the 'flick' switch you just need to make two rings/tube for the pointing finger and middle finger. The you will need to sticky tape the switch to the pointing finger's tube and the magnet on to the middle finger's tube.

Which means, when you need to 'replusor blast' someone, just spread your fingers. This activates the reed/magnet switch.

Thanks. I have updated the page with larger images for circuitry. Just can't seem to have those 'Click me to enlarge' options when I design the pages....:rolleyes

OK, the secret to this being 100% working is how you deal with the reed/magnet switch and not breaking them halfway. :lol

Hey Mr.Engineer,
I was doing a search on iron man fingers and i ended here (a good thing)
I also like your tutorial because i think you invest a lot of time in it.
I was wondering if you can do the same operation for a pep iron man costume like this (http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/4056/2arms.jpg)
Thanks a lot and keep it up :)

I took apart two of these, and re-wired them with beefier speakers and MUCH brighter LEDs. (The original comes with a tiny, single LED -- I soldered up a 9-LED rig from smaller flashlights.)

I have snapped some pics for a tut if anyone's interested, though some of these pics are better as a starting point ;)

I should have mentioned, I swapped out the speaker for a beefier one, and wired up a 4 AAA battery box to run it (instead of the toy's 3). I can't solder to save my life -- but I got it to work, once. I screwed up the wiring on the second repulsor and shorted the sound part.

On both, the toy's fade up/down work PERFECTLY with the new brighter light -- which is BLINDING straight-on. Will have to diffuse behind some plastic in the glove.
