TRON Props

It's always fun to get the reaction of someone seeing Tron Guy for the first time, isn't it? :cool

Btw, my most sincere apologies to jedifyfe. I realize this is exactly what you didn't want but, as the saying goes, "Give the people what they want."

...and what the people want could only the senseless slaughter of the gutter slime that litters this nation for cash and prizes.

Sorry about that, but I figured this thread could use a Gwar quote to increase the intellectual and cultural value :lol

Anyway, Tron threads turn up from time to time, and in a year and half I have yet to see one turn up anything other than Rogue Synapse's games (which rock!) and TronGuy (which definitely does not). I would have though that someone out there would have made a Frisbee or a bit by know. It's on my To-Do list, but there is a LOT stuff ahead of Tron at the moment. I'm still missing a couple of OT lightsaber hilts and a Blade Runner blaster. Still relatively new to the hobby.

Considering it's prominence in the film, you would think a Tron frisbee would have been a given for Disney to produce to help promote the film; maybe Disney and Wham-O couldn't come to an agreement. But then, IIRC, the film didn't do well when it was originally released, which would explain the dearth of Tron collectible items/props and the apparently low quantities of the items that were produced.

Thanks Zombie, and yes this is EXACTLY what I didn't want to happen! So if we can get back on topic...Anyone know the model frisbee that was used and could someone cast this in plastic, not resin?

How about some pics like these:

The disc in the second pic is what you're talking about. Someone around here has/had an original foam disc and he made some castings that went for around $100-120. I don't remember who he was, but maybe he'll chime in.

Hey Derek, I've got a question about the helmets you have (I'm just a little curious). Did you find the same type of helmets used for the original production (as I've heard that they were hockey helmets) or did you use the papercraft method to create them?

Great helmets! I had the stand up cabinet as well. I sold it about 4 years ago. Damn those things are HEAVY!!!

I would love to hear about your helmet build.

I made them years ago...even had a tutorial up here for a while. They're both made from Cooper SK2000 hockey helmets...used to be able to find them for $30-40 on E-bay. The helmet design fluctuated from scene to scene a little in the movie, but I used a lot of screen shots and publicity stills to try to get the circuit pattern as close as possible. I hand drew the designs, scanned them, and overlayed them using Photoshop. Printed them off on adhesive paper, cut, and adhered. The helmet needs a little prep work with Bondo first and you have to make a foam insert...I used a cut up kids' playground tile for that. I'm about 4 computers past the one I used for these, and although I know I probably have the .jpg files somewhere, they aren't readily available.

I actually used to play hockey in those exact helmets. Had about 3 of them till about 2 years ago and sold them off on Ebay. A lot of the 70's and 80's NHL goalies wore these with full cages attached to the top. I believe one goalie Chris Osgood, who still plays to this day, wears this mask and they are still kind of a hot commodity because.
