Unlimited Run TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run! NOW SHIPPING

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

If you estimate delivery of the first run at late January and you think the second run would only take a couple weeks, when do you think the second run would be finished?

IF I do end up doing a second run, it would only take about 4 - 8 weeks most likely.

Getting there. Will have some new photos soon. The machinist's new computer developed some software failures with the milling machine....even though it's been working fine for a couple months with the lathe. He left me a voice mail two days ago saying it was just about fixed.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Finally, some visible progress!!

The main bodies are now being milled with grip slots, side channel, and the various screw and knob holes.

Here she is put together with some of the other pieces (the channel hasn't been cut into the core piece yet, as well as the screw holes, which is why the knobs are sticking up so high).

Have you got any shots of what the emitter will look like for those of us who only want a display piece?

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Looking great...can't wait to finally get this saber.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

any word on that possible second run?

My full concentration is on finishing this one. Once it's done and shipped, I'll figure out the feasibility of a second run. The interest is certainly out there, but I am so sick and so embarrassed this has taken so long, I kind of don't want to look at the saber any more and just get started on the next one...assuming anyone even wants to continue going in on my runs considering how long this one took.

To sum up: Ask me after this is done. :)

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

With your attention to detail i have no problems with the amount of time these runs are taking. Quality and accuracy takes time.....keep up the good work.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Looks like this is going to be worth the wait for those who got in on this.
Personally, I'd like to see you do a Darth Maul saber next.

PERFECTION TAKES TIME!!! :cool

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Nothing really interesting to show. Just monotonous stuff at the moment. Outer bodies are all finished. Right now he's working on drilling the screw clearance holes for the clamp, and after those are done, he'll be putting the finishing touches on the solid cores.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Thanks for the update...I havent minded waiting because I know the quality will be worth it and am sure the same will be true of any future runs you do. In the 'Quality - Cost - Speed triangle: pick any two' paradigm I'd rather Speed be sacrificed to do things right for Quality at a cost I can still afford. Methinks on those grounds these are going to be Epic and once we have them we'll be so pleased with the quality we won't even remember how long it took.

Gotta say looking pretty dang good :)

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

Big update for everyone today!

It's really starting to come together now. ALL the metal work should be finished this week I think, and all that will be left is making the grips, control box, and bulb release. I still have to get the wire forming company to make the wire loops, but I don't see that taking too long, as those machines crank them out in a matter of seconds.

So here are the channels being milled into the solid cores:

And how they look when finished:

Now, the hollow cored ones are just a tiny bit different, as the channel can't be as deep at the very top, so that there is clearance for the blade to slide in. However, I had just enough material to fake that part of the channel, and when it's all put together, you won't really be able to tell there's difference. The LED bezels, and the longer, main part of the channel are still at screen accurate depth:

General clutter :)

And here is everything (minus the covertec knob) made so far, all put together! Please keep in mind that the knobs and the LED bezels are not screwed all the way down in these photos, but will seat properly when everything is finished.

Re: TridCloudwalker's Anakin AotC Lightsaber Run!

At what point did we decide if we wanted a solid or hollow core version?
