Transformers One Movie

Well, this is the first thread i've ever started on here. Not sure if this warrants one, but after searching to see if someone else had started a thread and finding none, i figured, why not?

I decided to take my family to the movies today. We haven't gone together in a very long time. Transformers One was a fun flick to watch and it actually had a good story and stayed on point from beginning to end. In my opinion, it was very funny and played to the "Dad jokes" side of me, while not dismantling the whole Transformers franchise in the process that a lot of the current trend has been.

I will always love my generations iteration of Transformers more than any other (1980's G1). To me, nothing comes close but i was pleased with this movie and i left and EVERYONE gave it a thumbs up in my family(Which is rare). lol. This is the best Transformers movie to come out since the 1986 animated Movie. I feel they have wasted the franchise for the most part since then with the "Bayformers". This has given the franchise a "spark" of hope for its future.

With that being said, feel free to talk about it...likes or dislikes...praise it...trash it, whatever.

I do realize this just came out. Maybe there are people who will visit this thread to get an indication if they should spend their hard earned money to go watch it so please, no major spoilers for a bit(Even though it is a pretty predictible movie given that we all know who Megatron and Optimus Prime are etc., but how they get from point A to point B is what is unknown)

Thanks for you honest tale on the film.

The Transformers' orign lore has been re-imagined multiple times since the orignal G1 TV show, so without getting into spoilers, do you feel that it stayed "true" to that? I am not even sure what qualifies as canon in the Transformers universe any more.

Thank you and great question.
To me, the official Canon is the G1 Transformers cartoon but i'm not going to be dogmatic about it. That's what my explaination of "not dismantling the whole Transformers franchise" meant but i'm not the authority on it. In the original cartoon series they explore an "origins" if you will, and i just accepted that as how Megatron and Optimus( Decepticons vs Autobots) came to be. Did Transformers One faithfully represent that origins? I would say that they mingled some things together but i like their take on it...but it's not complete. I can see more movies coming after this to complete their version of the origins and explain more that we end up seeing in the G1 series. They most certainly used more characters that we don't see in the G1 series.

I felt the "Bayformers" did too much and it made Transformers unrecognizeable to me. Transformers One felt more G1 to me...yes it's animated, but that's not the only reason.

To my 8yr old self in 1984, G1 felt a little serious but had humorous moments. To my 48yr old self in 2024, Transformers One felt very not so serious but had impactful serious moments. They introduced some new things that i can't share...a lot of easter eggs and lets just say the best version of Bumblebee since G1. The 1986 G1 Transformers movie had a MUCH more serious tone in comparison. I do miss Peter Cullens voice though. Hemsworth did a pretty good job but nothing is as good as the original.

It kinda blew evrrything up.

****Sorta spoilers****

Made me much more empathetic towards Megatron. Megatron goes too far, but DANG!

If you ever played the game, the cogs are a big deal, and after the movie uses cogs for status

...and then you find out what REALLY HAPPENED!!

Oh my GOODNESS!!!

Very jaw-dropping.

Did I like it? Not a fan of the art style, definitely not Combiner Wars level art, but the story, it had an extreme shock factor.

Yeah, the art style was different...in some ways Transformers Prime looking but atleast you could identify them and their G1 head sculpts..

In the G1 cartoon, Megatron had already risen to power and Orion Pax had not. They changed things up for sure. Also, Alpha Trion was more of a father figure but in Transformers One they changed him and integrated a different story line.

Like i said before, the feel of the movie is completely different than original G1. It was hysterical though..lol, maybe too funny but being a huge fan of Transformers I didn't find the changes or integrations too repulsive.

Saw this last night, incredible film, and gorgeous to look at. The advertising really undercut what this film is really about. Unfortunately its looking like it will prety much be a flop, and is already being pulled form theaters. Ill say when i went on a Sunday at 2, i was the only one.

Yeah, when i went there was my family and another family and that was it. I really liked it, If it flops it's not because it was a bad film. I'm glad you liked it. For some reason, Transformers in an animation movie seems to be better than all the rest, in my opinion. I love the '86 movie...yes, I love Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime...unapologetic about it..lol

It worries me that they won't make another one because it obviously begs for a sequel. Do you think the marketing would have been different if it was advertised with Peter Cullen and Frank Welker doing the voices? I honestly can't picture them with the characters we got for Orion Pax and D16 but a cameo as Optimus Prime and Megatron would have been cool.

No I don’t think the voices were the issue, it’s just the audience the marketing team seemed to think they needed to appeal to, they clearly focused on the humor in the ads and wanted to get the younger kids, which turned off most adults from even considering it.

FWIW, I am surprised this got a theatrical release at all. I'll watch it when it comes out on streaming services, but what I've seen screams at me that it's about the same quality as any current fill-in-the-blank kids cartoon show, which does not warrant spending theater money to go see it. Massive G1 Transformers fan, but the animation I've seen on this does not inspire me to run out to see it, nor do any of the plot points dropped in trailers.

Then youre sadly mistaken, and its because of the advertising. The movie is gorgeous and the story is very adult, and a loveletter to all eras of Transformers. Please dont wait. This is miles above Cyberverse or Earthspark.

also ILM worked on the animation.

I am VERY hesitant when it comes to spending money at the movies but i'm glad i went to this one. I thought, FINALLY! A movie that hasn't been tainted by horrible story telling and PC. It was funny when it needed to be, serious when it needed to be. It was cohesive and stayed true to its plot without getting distracted by any one character. Unfortunately, if Kylash is right, then we won't be getting a sequel. This movie actually warrants one.

Walmart has a little set of decals including a mint condition Megatronus decal! Just needs a holographic overlay to make it shiny.
