Transformers -"can it be made?" - SPOILERS!

Wasn't exactly sure how to phrase this title since a few people haven't seen the movie, and what I want to replicate is sort of a spoiler. It's a prop, but also a character, so pardon if the title is a little ambiguous.

Spoilers ahoy!

One of my favorite moments in the film was the Nokia phone death bot. Combined with the sheer awesomeness of the Mt Dewbot, I was wondering if these things can actually be made.

I know they were CGI in the film, but that hasn't stopped people from making clone armor, guns, and many other CGI'd props seen on the board nowadays.

I honestly cannot think of how to do this, but I had 2 goals in mind.

1: Be (somewhat) transformable. Doesn't have to be pretty but just not a "Static" prop. This design just screams "poseable".

2: Be made of something that won't break easily. I know these could probably be made out of metal fairly easily with a CNC machine and some cad work, but I also know that it would be somewhere in the many hundreds of dollars per replica. Maybe plexiglass and resin?

Obviously I am mostly referring to replicating the Nokia bot moreso than the dewbot, because no matter how cool dispensing rocket flavored soda at puny humans is, it's hard to find shelf/house space for a coke machine.

I know both of the bots only got a few seconds of screen time, but damn that Nokia one was just cool.

Has anyone started any plans for replicating it? Anyone have any ideas on it? I haven't been around on the boards much lately but search didn't really turn up anything.

Just wondering if it will get made, and if it does, what it will be made of. I started doodling out a design to make by hand, but I have no clue where to start. These things are pretty complex, but even more so, I dunno how to make thin sheets of anything for the "real world" parts.

Don't wait for other people - YOU start it! :thumbsup Plexiglass is a great material, I think - it's lightweight, fairly strong for the size you want, inexpensive, and pretty easy to cut, bend, shape, sand, and takes the Krylon Fusion paints very well with no prep. A Home Depot or Lowes should have everything you need for this prop.

I'd first start with some drawings or screen caps of the thing you're trying to make, though. ;)

You could perhaps buy one of the real Nokia phones that they used and destroy it to make the bot mode. But if I am correct the phone they used was one of the higher end Nokias and quite expensive.

Now if you figure out a way to build the Dew Bot I hope you write a tutorial because I would love to have one!

Often phone shop have dummie versions of the phones they sell. (non working replica, with no inside) perheps you could obtain one of those. A lot cheaper than destroying a real one. :love

Yep, I can't do this :lol

Screencaps of the bot in question. He changes A LOT from the nokia phone to the nokia-bot.

I will try to get some caps of Dispensor (dewbots unofficial name) later on. Ironically he is a lot less complex than this guy.

I saw two different phones.

When the robot takes Mikaela's cell phone out of her purse, it is a Nokia 8800/8801 slider phone with a black case (you can tell by the location of the camera). I know because I have this phone. I even pointed it out in the theater to my friend. When he "transforms" into the phone, it is a flip phone.

Actually it isn't her phone that gets transformed. She reaches for hers but the heavy set black dude tosses his to the guy.
